The Voice in the Water

Listen to the crashing of the waves, the flow of a stream, the roar of a waterfall, or the patter of the rain.

    I should have known better

New indie animated series by GLITCH. Trailer here:

Considering that it's GLITCH, I'm surprised that I'm surprised by what was in that, but here we are. Hopefully its as good as Muder Drones and Digital Circus (which, while not the greatest things ever, are still solid compared to the stuff coming out of Hollywierd).

First Natuili spotted by EV Nautilus

Watch as deep sea researchers nerd out over externally shelled cephalopods! (I get that excited when I run into rare or cool plants, so I can pretty reasonably say that kind of reaction isn't scripted).

    Just some random gamer ramblings

So, I was beating my head against a wall in Lies of P, and got to thinking: what would I want if I made Splintered Sky into a game. Obviously, there's a lot of different routes it could go, but something that really stuck with me was "wouldn't it be interesting to try to make an EVE style game out of the setting." So, I got to thinking "how could I make something like that and make it

    Monster Hunter Wilds

Sooooo, the MH Wilds beta is going on. And I've been playing it. And I'm afraid that if I buy the game, its going to be the only thing I play for a long time. Just like what happened when I picked up MH World. Yes, it's that good.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to make myself do something else besides pummel balahara.

    Versus (by One)

So, something that I have generally come to loath in contemporary storytelling is the very obnoxious trope of "sUbvOOrtinG tHi Aubiense exPertaCHuns dur hur hur I aRe seww cLEBbER" ["clever author" takes another drink of lead paint]. There's a single author that I've read that actually makes it work, and that's One, the creator of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100.

Galarian ponyta · 6:26pm Oct 11th, 2019

Y'know how words can cause associations that completely defy the intent of the creators of something?

Take Galarian ponyta. Cute, princess Celestia colored pokemon, right? Seems harmless enough.

Here's the thing. There was a game back in 1999 called Galarians, which was a survival horror game where you played a psychokinetic kid that used drugs to amplify his powers, but risked overdosing/overloading his brain if he used them too much, that was trying to stop a rogue A.I. from annihilating humanity using its own genetically engineered psions. It was pretty horrific, and had some very dark themes, even for a 90's survival horror game.

Now whenever I look at the Galarian ponyta, I can't get the image out of my head that its trainer is injecting it with Red or Nalcon to give it psychic powers, and that all of the Galarian pokemon are on a mission from some sort of mad creator to wipe out humanity.

Word reuse is fun…
