Spoiler-Free Thoughts on Tomorrow's Finale · 4:06pm Oct 11th, 2019
So I've seen some comments from people that have watched the finale in advance where they bemoan the fact that it apparently didn't fulfill their every whim/wish for how it should have ended (or not).
I disagree with their bitching.
I watched all three several weeks (a month?) ago and I can honestly say—I enjoyed it. I think they did a good job with the two main episodes closing down the current arc, and that the epilogue speaks to me as someone who enjoyed this series so much and was inspired by it and will continue to be inspired for years to come, I imagine.
Of course, people will have conflicting views. But when you eventually watch the episode, even if it's not perfect for you, think about the underlying message behind the epilogue. Think about how it relates to how things began for for you. Where were you back then? When you first discovered Ponies? Where are you now, not only as a fan, but as a person or writer.
How many stories have played out both in the show, in your life, and through the eyes of a pony or Equestria Girl? Are the connections and impact in your life by this just limited to how it was a fad for some? Or did it mean more? Did it bring you joy when you were sad?
When you watched the episodes, didn't your eyes light up when something unexpected happened? A joke you caught, a detail that you had to watch twice to confirm... Gummy's musings?
People complain about the series, how it is not as good now as Season 1 or 2 was, or how Seasons 1 and 2 were sub-par or whatever. Far too many times I've read blogs or comments from people that decided long ago that the series wasn't doing it for them, and worse, acted like the whole thing was pointless. Time passes, and if things are not the same, maybe it's also a sign that you're not the same either. None of us stayed static in that point of our lives where ponies initially won us over.
If there was no joy in there for you for years, chances are there won't be there for you now... but! If you watch that with the outlook of someone that sees that you're still here because these cartoon little ponies—intended for a generation different than yours, for a gender and age group that might not be yours, etc—transcended that barrier and helped you participate here and in other places in something you found yourself passionate about... I do believe you can enjoy it.
I do believe it will make you smile and light up your day as it did for me. I'll watch it again tomorrow with everyone else because it is worth watching.
And even though we will have only the comics to pick up season 10 (something I'm not delighted about, I admit) as an official continuation, do remember that no matter what, we still have Fimfic... and that the good stories here, far surpass anything that we might or not like in the show or the comics—because they come from us.
And I think that the epilogue touches on that a bit.
Note: If you watched the epilogue and finale beforehand and feel the need to argue/comment, please mark anything important as spoilers. But preferably try to avoid posting any altogether.
A man cannot cross the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man. Complaining about will annoy everyone around you but not accomplish anything else.
I think we can all agree we will miss the show. But in the words of Dr Seuss, "Don't weep because it's over. Smile because it happened."
I loved the finale, though I admit the twist at the start was disappointing but I got over it. As far as finales go I've certainly seen worse.
Loved it. I was worried and it was for naught. The complainers are only angry about the canon dump.
Loved it regardless
My only issue regarding the finale was Grogar being Discord, I know they both shared the same eyebrows and eye color, but it still killed my hype for Grogar tbh
Otherwise, I loved it
I'm going to be an oddball of the fandom and not watch it live. In fact, I haven't seen a single episode of Season 9. I'm currently about halfway through a re-watch of Season 8, as I like to re-watch prior seasons before watching the latest one. I'm not afraid of spoilers. Instead I shall listen to the whining of all the people taking the ending too seriously and chuckle at them before watching it for myself. And I'm sure I'll enjoy it, because I stopped getting serious about this kind of thing sometime after Season 4.
I also watched the finale leak. I enjoyed* it very much, and I will be making my own pre-finale blog post some time this evening or tomorrow morning.
*cried my eyes out
While I personally found the two-parter to be a little weak compared to some of the other finales (something that mostly stems from a lot of little issues I have with it and in some ways the show in general as of late), that lat episode... there's no way I could ever dislike it. It's just... well, for those who haven't seen it yet, you'll find out.

I've been putting it off for the same reason it took me several hours to watch Felina.
I don't want to go.
I'm not ready to say goodbye.
If I never finish... it never ends.
I loved it. What a high to go out on.
