Misprints · 10:38pm Sep 25th, 2019
So one of the people who had bought a copy of Without a Hive had a printing issue where some of the words were randomly made italic. It was a problem that had cropped up before, but I had thought fixed. Apparently, this wasn't the case. It seems that the books weren't printing consistently, despite using the same PDF. Most seem to have printed just fine, but some (I'm only aware of one, though there might be more) had random italics throughout. I've been in contact with Lulu support, who believe it was an issue with the PDF not saving correctly, so they re-saved the file (And all the other books') in Acrobat Pro to ensure it was using the same standards that they designed their system around, and the copies printed since then seem to have been fixed. I'm still a little concerned about they could print two books from the same file and get different results, but it looks like they solved the problem.
It looks like there weren't many copies affected, but if you got one of the misprints, I'm very sorry Please, contact Lulu support. They've been good about getting fixed replacements out.
That just means they have rare special collector's editions. :V

I'd like them to be as rare as possible.
It was probably a problem on their end.

that's one way to look at it lol. I'll keep that in mind if I ever need the money, bidding starts at $40.

Oh it's 100% their fault. Pheonix is underselling it a bit, over half the book is messed up, that's not something you miss in test prints and there's no way that it should have shipped. They flat out told me that they don't do any quality control on the print quality when I asked them, in fact the QA people are specifically told not to check that.

Or after the page was printed?

Yeah! Me too!
My signed and numbered #1 should be the only one printed in all-italics!
5128228 I wouldn't expect them to have any QC, they're not about to thumb through every book they print. What I meant was, it was probably a computer error on their part, not a lack of QC. Still their fault lol
