There are two lives: The life you live before you see a unicorn, and the life you live after.

I'm in a sharing mood at the moment, and this game I finished a while back deserves more love. Basically nobody was or is talking about it. It's a unique take on the beat-em-up genre that our friendship-focused fandom should arguably appreciate called Way of the Passive Fist:

    State of the Prism

It's been a while since I've done one of these, peel back the curtain to reveal a snippet of the current status of my life. In today's emotional climate, I figured nobody would mind some good news.

    It's a Hearth's Warming abomination!

    Behold the future, and despair.

To summarize, Pony Life is going to give us:

    • Inflation
    • One or more new alicorns
    • Disturbing llamas
    • And unicorn horns on literally anything that breathes

    Well then.

So, I bet some of you are wondering what I've been working on lately.

Well, let's just say I've been writing a finale of my own. One for a certain popular universe of interconnected fanfics. No, I'm not going to say which one, but you're welcome to guess. (Please don't spoil it if you're already in the know :scootangel:.) The genre, though? That, I'll tell you. Get pumped, it's a pastiche:

Thoughts Half Baked #2 · 3:34pm Sep 22nd, 2019

Welcome to the second installment of Thoughts Half Baked. In this one, I'll be discussing a few crossovers that never materialized. Let's jump right in!

So, my mind tends to try and connect franchises together on the regular, MLP included. Most of the time, they don't quite mesh right for anything to come of it, and I've lost count how many instances this has happened. Other times, it works great, and you can read the final product here on the site. But sometimes, they click, but not quite well enough to be worth writing. The most seamlessly fitting property to fuse to our beloved series among these I've found is Code Name S.T.E.A.M.

The premise of the game is simple enough, if outlandish: figures from classic literature in an alternate history battle eldritch horrors. Among these characters are the four main figures from the Wizard of Oz. Oz itself factors in to the story, also being under attack from beyond, and can be reached via portal. So, I thought, why not just swap out OZ with Equestria and put in the Mane 6 as agents, and retell the plot of the game? It would be easy and fun. The problem, however, was thus: who would read it? People who played the game would know for the most part how things were going to play out, and those who didn't probably would be put off and not pick up the fic in the first place.

Next, we're going old school with VOTOMS:

In this case, I really thought Chirico deserved a happier ending after all he'd been through. (Disregarding the OVAs, which weren't very good anyway.) To skip all the intervening plot details, he figured he'd never truly escape from the unending cycle of galactic war, and sealed himself in a cryostasis pod with his terminally ill girlfriend before the pod was ejected into the void of space. Like, that's so sad. If the pod eventually landed in Ponyville, they could be revived and start a new life together. I wanted to see that happen, but it just wouldn't be very interesting to write, or to read. I had a similar idea for Made in Abyss:

People who get resurrected as ponies after they die for a second chance at happiness is basically an archetype on par with Displaced at this point, but if any character in all of fiction deserves that treatment, it's poor, poor Mitty. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go watch the show first, it's god damn incredible. If you do, you likely agree with me 100%. She'd have a blast, going on adventures and making new friends. I just, you know, never figured out exactly what those adventures would be.

Anyhow, that's all for today. Later, friends!
