Quick and dirty check of everyone's thoughts on the matter: I'm thinking of putting together another Imposing Sovereigns contest (details in the link.) Who'd like to participate? Who'd like to judge? Who'd like to see some twists on the formula, and what should they be? And most importantly, if we were to start this Sunday, who's okay with October 20th as a deadline?

I could judge, things seemed to go well the last time I did that.

I’d gladly join in!

Hm, I might try my hoof at that. Sounds good.

I probably wouldn't enter unless you shook up the categories. Maybe something like MTG colors? Political philosophy? Element of Harmony virtue? Ooh, tarot cards would be neat.

I'd at least give writing something a try.

Well, I might have to dust off my reviewing for another set of these, could be fun. Or just judge them directly :derpytongue2:. Still do agree a changeup of categories could be fun.

oh god

to all of it

You have me intrigued.

Not sure about that deadline, though. When were you planning on starting?

Added to the main post. Submissions would open this coming Sunday.

A little less than a month of writing? Yeah, that sounds feasible.

I could get onboard with this idea.

Could be fun to take a break from my current project for a little while and do something different. Color me interested.

Yes please

I missed the last one on account of being out of the fandom :(

Although, October 20th feels way too soon. I'd like it if it could be pushed back a week or two.

No don't I don't want to compete with this chucklehead make it sooner

I would absolutely love to participate again, but yeah, October 20th is too soon for me, I've got commissions I've been neglecting lately. I wouldn't be able to join unless the deadline is pushed back a bit.

Shame, really, but I hope it goes well. Last year's was a BLAST.

I don't want to compete with Aragon either could we make it tomorrow?

I'd be interested. I'm not certain one month would be long enough, but I'd try.

Twists? Maybe new categories. We'd certainly have new princesses, at least.

I would certainly want to participate although I would wait to see the details before making any promises.

I'd of course be interested in participating again, but like some of the others, I've got my own stories I've been neglecting. With the Sunset Shipping Contest wrapping up just a week ago, I think that might be the case for a lot of us. It might be a good idea to wait a little while so that people don't get fatigued.

Well, my entry from last time went over like a lead balloon and still remains one of my least-read stories despite also being one of my personal favorites.

... yeah, I’m down to go through that again.

Hurt me, daddy.

You definitely need a twist of some kind, because running the exact same contest twice... well, okay, the guy who won the last says he won't be entering, so the usual reason doesn't entirely apply, but it's the principle of the thing. Princessiple? No, that sounds stupid and it's all derived from the gender-neutral princeps anyway.

Oh, also: how do you feel about the new counterspell that's actually flavored as "I didn't give you permission to do that"?

My plan is to announce every spell with "May I please cast X?" if my opponent has the mana open. If they cast Didn't Say Please, I'll call a judge.

"I'm sure judging would be fun." is what I'd say if I didn't suspect you'll end up with All the Submissions. If you're otherwise shorthanded, I could pick up some slack. Or, if you think I'd bring some interesting perspective or quality to the process, I could probably scrape together some more time for it.

And yet, otherwise, I'm not even sure if I could manage to participate, even with a longer window. I'm sure I could scrape RoboFoME for another princess-y card, though...

(Honestly, I'm sure both sides would be improved a bit if I weren't about 2 seasons out of date with the show.)

I'd certainly be willing to give it a try, assuming I can think of a good story for it.

I would prefer the deadline a little later, but this should be okay.

As much as I’m eager to get this Princess ball rolling, I can see the point about Sunset Shipping having taken up some oxygen of late. I don’t think you’d have to wait terribly long though, and it could be an opportunity to get the word out more before hitting go. :raritywink:

Oh man, this is exciting. The first one made for some sweet fics.

5124205
That'll make prerelease exciting :rainbowlaugh:

I would like to, it depends on what the final catagories are. If you want new ones, maybe a Royal Backstory contest of some kind?

5124139
OhthankGod a fighting chance.

5124205
As long as you understand that you're bluffing on the off chance that your opponent doesn't realize that the existence of Magic Judge as a paid position means that the rules are too strict for that. And you do, because you've probably designed more cards than some of the people in WotC's R&D, and I've only seen you slip once. (It was the overload/splice interaction breaking your card; I don't consider power level to be an issue because that's Play Design's job)

I'd love to participate!

Entirely missed the last one, but I might be down for this one! Still catching my breath after the Sunset Shimmer fic contest (and have got some WIPs that should really be dusted off), but I could probably do something.
Count me in!

Sounds good. I'm kinda wanting to do something with Flurry Heart.

I'd like to participate.

And most importantly, if we were to start this Sunday, who's okay with October 20th as a deadline?

Hm, that's good. I predict the Sunset Shipping judgement and results would collectively take roughly a month, and I've got free time until the deadline given in the OP.

Tentatively... Eh, maybe yes. Yes to participation, but I might drop out if it's not working out. And I second the motion that the categories be different from last time. Elements of Harmony theme is a classic, but I'm open to alternatives.

My entry for the last one is one of the best things I've ever written. SO. I guess I'll go again! :raritywink:

Oh, I don't know if people will go for this, but I'd like to see this one be about stallions and R63s? At least can we count Blueblood as a princess? Plz? Pretty plz? :pinkiehappy:

I'd probably love to enter, since contests seem to bring pretty good stories out of me, but realistically I've no idea at all if I'd get something put together in time, them being characters I've never written much of before. So... tentatively interested, I guess. I'd definitely be down to judge, though.

I'm interested in entering! A contest might usefully get me back into writing!

For the record, one of the primary rules is that as long as you can justify it in the story, anyone can be a princess. Including sirens and dudes.

5124444
5124499
And given the linguistic precedent of Il Principe (actually gender neutral in the original Italian)...

I should probably clarify my response to 5124205 a bit. Yes, it's a funny joke, but Magic Judges have enough actual rules minutiae to explain to people. Did you know that Gadwick's card needs a rules update to function properly? That's the sort of thing they have to know (although the exams they have to go through would word it in terms of CMC-based stuff on a Hydra, it's the same basic rules issue)

5124444 yessssss.... there is 1 good story on the site 4 Best Princess - plz make it 2!

Hehe I took Blueblood and war. We’ll see how it goes. I wrote a good outline, then had to trim 2/3 of it to keep it under the 15K word limit. :raritydespair:

Maybe I’ll write a sequel with the discarded material if the story does well. :duck:

What’s the good BB story that exists?

5131892 there's just so much 2 say about her, tho!

I like the 1 with the really good cover pic:

Oh, sorry, I was jokingly referring to male Blueblood as a princess. I prefer stallions. And more lovey dicey erotica. And I can’t do porn in the contest!
