MLP FIM Season 9 Episode 20 A Horse Shoe-In Review · 4:34pm Sep 14th, 2019
I thought this episode was alright.
Spoilers Be Warned!!!
With Twilight's coronation of being Princess of Equestria approaching, she informs Starlight Glimmer that she's now the Headmare of The School of Friendship. Starlight now needs to hire a Vice Headmare. Trixie finds out about this and wants Starlight, her best friend to hire her. Starlight doesn't think that Trixie has what it it takes, but not wanting to hurt her friend's feelings decides to tag her along and have her be a candidate for the job. In spite of some very good candidates giving good performances had to go for various reasons, which leads to Trixie being a finalist. All of worthiness on wanting the job ends in failure with one attempt ends up endangering the students. Starlight can't take it anymore and frustratingly tells Trixie that she'll never have the job. Starlight tells Twilight what has happened, telling her that it would've been great and easy if she had a friend for the job but the things Trixie did made it impossible to do so. Twilight tells her that even though that would've been great, Starlight has to pick someone for the job, even if it's not a friend, but assures her that she shouldn't give up on Trixie yet when it comes to the school. Starlight apologizes to Trixie, even though that she won't be Vice Headmare, Starlight will not quit on being Trixie's friend and she can still out at the school and help around. Sunburst soon approaches Starlight and tells her that his role in helping out Flurry Heart is almost up, he heard about the Vice Headmare job, and is now asking her for a chance to take it. Knowing that Sunburst is great with young ones, well educated, and is very trustful, she gives him the job. Both she and Trixie congratulate him. Starlight still has fears about running the school but Trixie reassures her that she has what it takes. Seeing that Trixie helped her out on calming down, Starlight realizes that she is great at comforting others with words as well as standing up for others like when she stood up for Gallus. Starlight offers Trixie the job as the school's head counselor to which she accepts.
As I said before I thought this episode was alright. It's always great to see Starlight Glimmerand Trixie together. It's nice seeing Trixie helping out more and wanting to help out more. The lesson about making choices for your friends even if it's ones where the friend might not like is a good oneas well as the lesson of stringing your friend(s) along instead of telling them right away can be a bad thing. My problem is that the episode had some sort of closure. Twilight no longer running the school, Starlight now taking over, Sunburst searching for another job, Trixie getting a second job. The closure seems unnecessary and I'll get more into that when I talk about the finale. All in all I thought this episode was alright. Some of the humor was great though and it was nice seeing Octavia and Time Turner (Dr. Whooves) again and giving them speaking roles. I give this episode 6.5 out of 10. Apologies if I've upsetted anyone.
P.S., whose idea was it for Spoiled Rich on being a candidate for Vice Headmare?!
