    an update

Hi all. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been taking an extended break from FimFiction lately. Had some undesirable interactions with some users. That coupled with some of my creative frustrations just makes logging on... kind of unpleasant? If I do log on, it's usually to try and catch up with the fics I'm reading and then I quickly log off. I'm just feeling drained with the MLP fanfic

It was my birthday yesterday! I'd meant to post the day of, but honestly, I was so tired and busy I just didn't have much time or energy to sit at my computer. Wanna hear a funny story or two, plus see the new playlist I made for Sassaflash? Get it after the jump!

    ponies fix everything

New chapter for What They Hope to Find is out! I talk about what's next after the jump, but before that, a quick anecdote:

Last night, my family was having trouble finding something to watch together. My nine-year-old son didn't have any ideas, but he pretty much shot down every suggestion we had. Eventually, out of frustration and half-serious, I say, "Let's just watch ponies."

    Jinglemas! And Rarijack!

I'm participating in this year's Jinglemas! It's a cute fic exchange that happens every year. I requested a rare pair ship, three guesses which. :twilightsheepish: Today is the last day to join, so if you want in on it, be sure to read over the rules and PM Shakespearicles!

2019

What They Expect to Give just got another four pages today! The general outline I made for myself months ago is really helping me out. We're now up to 22 pages, 8754 words.

Gonna take a break to go tinker with this new thing I found. Have any of you heard of SWGEmu? It stands for Star Wars Galaxies Emulator. If you don't already know what SWG was, it was an MMO that was released in 2003, and was shutdown in 2011. It was a sandbox MMO in the same spirit of Ultima Online. You could make your own player towns, have characters centered mostly around non-combat roles, and you weren't railroaded into quest lines. And apparently the crafting system was really robust, and the world itself is really player-reliant.

I'm gonna see about starting up a character today on SWGEmu's Basilisk server. They still seem to have a decent population. I don't know if they'll ever release space battles (some users have been grumbling about that) but I'm hoping it'll still be fun. I've been dying for a more sandbox MMO experience for a while. If you play on SWGEmu, or want to know more about it, lemme know. I'm still trying to learn myself, but I think I've found some helpful resources.

Oh, nice job on the writing progress!

Hmm, I'm vaguely familiar with SWG, inasmuch as I know it existed, but MMOs always make me nervous (Especially after issues with TOR). How does it run? Is it super cpu/internet intensive?

Nah as far as I could tell it's not super cpu intensive. I haven't hit any high pop areas, so I can't say how internet intensive it is. When I have time to log on to SWGEmu, it's generally pretty quiet. Usually in the mornings. I have close to 20mb speed when wired and I'm running wireless on a laptop, but the game runs smooth otherwise.

You can get the ISOs for the original game on the SWG reddit. It's abandonware so it's not illegal. I think the SWGEmu website is a bit dated on its stance that you need buy the physical discs so as not to break any laws. The ISOs worked perfectly with their launcher.

I'm also going to check out SWGLegends. SWGEmu is what Galaxies was like close to launch. SWGLegends is what Galaxies was like before it got shutdown years later. From what I hear, it's similar to SWTOR (current active Star Wars MMO). Since I don't have a computer with enough space to run SWTOR proper, I figure I'll check out Legends as well. I really liked SWTOR when I was able to play it. Legends has a gentler learning curve, too. I just spent almost 40 minutes on SWGEmu trying to figure out how to buff my character and tip players, then after giving up, I ran out into the fields of Tatooine and got killed by a swarm of kreetles. Muuuuch harder learning curve lol.

Oh cool, I might have to check it out then. Or the other. I'm not a huge huge MMO fan but like half of that is computer issues. And I do love old school SW...

Yeah I think I may stick with Legends. It runs well and it's much easier to jump into. I'm nearly 10th level and I've only played for maybe a few hours. Still in the newbie area, but I'm looking forward to getting into the game proper. The space gameplay is soooo cool. I don't know why SWTOR decided for its on-the-rails space fights when it could've done what SWG did, but with more polish. Wasted opportunity.

Ooh, nice! Space combat is always fun when it's handled right. I'm curious what that would look like in an MMO.

What kind of class are you? Or is it an "Everybody=Jedi" kind of thing?

5119850
Nah there are 9 classes. I started with smuggler so I can harvest materials, then I want to make a trader. You can be a jedi too.

5119998
Oh, cool! Haha, Im a normie scrub, would totally play jedi. Or sith, if thats an option. Lightning hands.
