In case you missed the news elsewhere, I have a very nice bit of information for those of us who think Equestria Girls will peter out with a few more shorts and then nothing more.
Well, to be clear, it's nice for those who think that and aren't happy about it.
Coming at some unspecified point in the future, though you can probably find it online at this point. It's already aired in the Ukraine. And with any luck, Anon-a-Miss will be kept far, far away from it.
(Note: If you've seen it, please don't discuss it in the comments. I plan on waiting.)
(Additional note: It's apparently more a montage of shorts than a single unified narrative, but at least we get a bundle out of it.)

Haven't seen it, and like you, I plan on waiting and watching it (albeit probably on either Dailymotion or YouTube) when it officially releases in the US.

Same. I like to watch livestreams, but I'm really terrible with figuring out the airdates for EQG stuff. Watching on Dailymotion and YouTube doesn't feel like I'm supporting the show very much.
I like this. The existence of the special, at least. The foreign-language early releases I can live without.
5114850 Yeah, me, too, but sadly, our cable package doesn't have Discovery Family, do Dailymotion and YT are my only way of watching the show right now.
But remember Hasbro has an official channel on YouTube that you can watch the eps and stuff on.
So that probably counts as supporting the show and specials.
Well that's good news. Glad to see Equestria Girls will continue at least for a little bit after MLP:FIM ended.

That out of the way, I really hope we see more of the girls when FiM is finished. It'd be like seeing a part of the Mane 6 continuing their adventures long after their Equestrian counterparts take up the Crown.

This might be the final big sendoff, so Imma consider it a nice middle ground between "full length special" and "shorts" EQG has been alternating over.
I sometimes feel I'm the only person in the fandom who doesn't despise the Anon-a-Miss comic with a fiery passion. I mean, I wouldn't say I liked it, but I'd read it over watching "2, 4, 6, Greaaat" again, I think.
Thanks for the heads up! I'd love it if EqG confronted for a while longer, but this should at least be a nice cute send-off to a delightful world.

I'm not saying it's the worst piece of media to come out of the franchise. (That honor goes to the "I'm On a Yacht" short. At least I could get through most Jay Fosgitt comics without feeling physically revolted.) I am saying it's chronologically incoherent even by pony standards, has bits of truly baffling art like Fluttershy being on a different hemisphere or the open-and-shut panel, and has a disgustingly hypocritical student body, given how the vast majority of the secrets spilled were submitted by the very people who condemned Sunset for divulging them.
And, you know, the general inadvisability of crowbarring a cyberbullying PSA into a holiday special. And the fact that it was so poorly received, it effectively killed any and all future EqG comics.
"2, 4, 6, Greaaat" is not a good episode. The Anon-a-Miss comic is fractally terrible, being awful at every level of resolution.
Sorry about the rant, but I apparently still have opinions about that comic.

I liked it.
I mean, I far more like the hypothetical edited version that gets its timelines straight which sadly exists only in my mind, but the day this fandom stops whining over that comic is the day I start respecting us as a fandom more.
But yeah, I'm glad we finally get winter material. Fingers crossed for winter fashions pleeeeeease.

Genuine question: Can you explain the Fluttershy hemisphere shot to me? I'm looking but I'm completely unable to make out what you're referencing.
That locker shot is hilarious, though, I can't believe I didn't see it before. I know what they were going for but lol.
I've continued to hear this for the last five years, and I'll continue to be baffled by it. Like, hate on the the execution, sure (again, I actually don't), that's valid, or dislike the apparently really bad fic that came out of it (I've had the good sense to avoid it all), sure--but to this date I've always heard people mad at this special talking as if cyberbullying and the holidays are mutually exclusive concepts that can never exist in the same space.
I'd be a lot less eye-rolly if folks just came out and said "I wanted Christmas fluff and got something that wasn't that", y'know?

For the hemisphere shot, look out the window in Fluttershy's panel in the linked image. There are birds. On the green, leafy branches. In late December. And as a reminder, this is what the front of the school looked like that morning. The only logical conclusion is that Fluttershy was actually in a different hemisphere when she got that text.

Thanks. So it seems to be a question of degree: we both dislike it, but I just dislike it. You absolutely detest it. I think I may row back a little on "2, 4, 6, Greaaat" simply because I think Smolder deserves better -- but given a free choice I'd certainly rather read that comic than watch "What About Discord?"
I can't actually recall anything about "I'm on a Yacht", so possibly my brain has erased it from my memory out of concern for my welfare.

I have a feeling this special will mess up my headcanon of the EG humans celebrating Yuletide instead of Christmas. Still, I'll take it.
...It's sad that the first true confirmation we get that this is real is that it's been leaked.
....Hmm. I can't help but notice derpibooru didn't update their site-wide spoiler warning for the leaked EQG movie / shorts collection / whatever.
Shouldn't they tell people "please make sure to use this-or-that unified tag" so people can block it? If that's the final EQG "movie" (?), it ought to be given proper spoiler-prevention treatment...
I mean, at the moment I'm just blanketly blocking everything new past a certain date on my main filter, but I still sometimes have to use different filters and would rather like to avoid spoilers...
