...wut is even happening? Plus, calling all editors! · 11:56pm Aug 21st, 2019

I go into hiatus and the whole world falls apart! I hear Spidey may be leaving the MCU because Disney and Sony can't come to an agreement. Seriously? We just got him in there and Spidey was finally finding his groove! Who is more at fault here? Disney or Sony? Now I feel Tony's sacrifice in Endgame to bring Pete back may be for nothing.

Anyway. Life has been hectic, guys. I worked through summer camp at my job until the beginning of July. Then, I started babysitting for three families occasionally, got hired through the state to childcare, and I also farmsit. Plus, I have three dogs, a cat, and I'm the main person who cleans and maintains the household. My plate has been full, but I managed to get everything organized to where I finally can do both my jobs and side projects (drawing and writing).

However, I have kept in touch with ChangelingNumber32. He just released a new video, and we agreed if he did so, I would have to get off my butt and finally do something! So, with me finally able to breathe, I need the help of a few editors! Any volunteers?!

Also. How did you guys feel about Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far from Home?

It seems that Disney got greedy and wanted to increase their cut. Originally, Disney got 5% of the box office gross from the first day of release. Now they want 50%, which is a little ridiculous, especially when you consider that Disney also got all of the merchandising rights as well. It's possible the two studios could still work out an agreement, but it's best to prepare for the worst. On the bright side, Tom Holland is contractually obligated for at least two more films, so at least they aren't going to hard reboot it again. :derpytongue2:

I swear that mouse's hunger for cash is never-ending. Disney is already making billions through Star Wars, Marvel, Pirates, and several other properties.

I truly hope they can work something out. I love the current run for Spidey (Holland), and Sony doesn't have the best track record with old Webhead. Yes, Spider-Verse is great but I mean live action. The ASM series was meh at best, Spider-Man had emo dancing Pete, and Venom was dumb but fun in a good/bad way.

Lord knows Uncle Ben doesn't need another bullet hole in him.

The other issue was that Disney was also completely footing the bill for production of the films as well. The telling fact was Sony had it’s stock price drop because the deal fell through. If the next movie bombs, and with Sony’s current track record it will, I can see Disney trying to purchase Sony Pictures.

If you need editing help, I've done editing for a few stories. Just let me know when I'm needed and I'm your man

Disney's already powered enough.

NOTHING IS FINALIZED YET. EVERYONE PLEASE CHILL OUT UNTIL IT'S STATED OTHERWISE! PRETTY PLEASE?!

Edit: Please understand I don't mean to sound angry. I'm just tired from seeing everyone jump onto the 'IT'S ENDING ALREADY AND THAT MEANS END TIMES FOR SPIDEY!' mentality when literally nothing is even close to FINAL yet.

How's everything going with your girlfriend?

I don't see Disney letting go of Spiderman so easily so hopefully, they work things out peacefully.

5109745
We are aware. And it's understandable. It's just the idea is terrifying everyone.

5109746
Pretty good. Living together. It's also part of the reason everything has fallen into the backseat.

I hope this resolve the same way the James Gunn situation was handled.

5109751
I understand. But...... oh lord the amount of times I've seen this thing on repeat.... it's enough to make my eyes hurt.

5109753
That's wonderful!

You know, I can imagine that Stan Lee is undoubtedly rolling in his grave over Spider-Man's removal from the MCU.

5109730
That’s not true, reports came in that Disney initially wanted 30% and was willing to negotiate further, including upping the shares they usually throw when making Spider-Man.

Sony however didn’t want that, the success of Venom made them think they can handle MCU Spidey. Sony came out and said that Feige was “too busy” for Spider-Man. Which is complete bullshit considering they were setting up Spidey to lead the MCU going forward.

And before you say they made Into The Spider-Verse, thats technically not true, Spider-Verse was largely hands-off from Sony and actually from Sony Pictures Animation, a separate company. As they had no faith in the movie whatsoever (Lackluster advertising, poor release-date and a small budget), so when it did well and actually won them an Oscar. They were completely caught off guard. Amy Pascal even said that Spider-Verse was a success because it had little input from Sony themselves.

And before you say “Venom wasn’t that bad! I liked it!” The general consensus from a critical and audience standpoint was that it was mediocre at best. They told Andre Garfield straight-up that Spider-Man does not matter. That’s why he deliberately sabotaged his contract by not going to a meeting with Sony executives in Japan. Which is seen as a huge insult.

Coupled with Tom Holland saying he’ll only do a movie with Venom in it if its part of the MCU. AND with Jon Watts probably not returning, theres no way in hell they’re gonna get a replacement director, look at how Disney tried to replace Gunn. Literally no-one wanted the job. You’re already having Spider-Man 3 becoming a shit-show.

You already have the general audience state they’re not going to watch Spider-Man 3 if its not part of the MCU. It’s a massive loss for Sony if they do move forward with this.

Truth be told, Spiderman was a thing way before the MCU. The Rami films are a testament to that.

Whether or not the deal actually does fall through, Tom Holland is going to have to star in at least two more Spider-Man movies. Imagine how confused the kiddos would be if Peter Parker inexplicably wasn't in the dilemma he faced in the FFH mid-credits scene AND didn't seem to know anything about his friends or the Avengers. Complete and utter confusion.

First, great to see you again, second I really hope this situation is temporary. It’s too risky to just remove Spider-Man from the MCU after such a build-up. This is gonna affect both Marvel Studios and Sony negatively, they can’t just pretend Spidey doesn’t exist in the MCU or that Stark and the other heroes never existed in the upcoming Spider-Man movies. Unless they film them in a way that they’re still in the same Universe, they just won’t mention each other directly. But dammit, I want to see Spider-Man and The Human Torch finally interact on the big screen!

As for the other movies, I enjoyed Captain Marvel, it wasn’t the best movie but not the worst. I respect Carol’s power, I like the addition of The Skrulls and the Kree backstory. Also Nick Fury got to shine a bit.

Endgame was phenomenal, best movie in years, this really helped keep the MCU up there with the Star Wars movies in terms of multi-movie storytelling. The ending scene with every hero is such an iconic moment, still would have liked more, despite Wong’s beliefs. Also, to Tony, Natasha and Steve, their presence will be missed in the MCU (Well we’re getting a Black Widow movie but still, sad to lose them.)

Far From Home was a great Spider-Man movie, and Mysterio proved to be one of the best characters in the MCU. He really made the movie for me and I’m glad he was done justice. Also that surprise return of a certain loud mouth at the end, such a golden moment.

I look forward to the future (assuming they get Spidey back where he belongs), especially the new MCU hero Shang Chi along with the MCU premieres of The X-Men and Fantastic Four. Plus I heard a rumor about a Star Wars crossover, not sure if that’s a movie or not, but it’s something I’d love to see.

A lot has happened these past few days, with the whole Disney and Sony deal going down hill, but I have a feeling that they'll come to an agreement. I mean Spiderman has become an iconic character in the MCU now and with how well Far from Home did in theaters, and not to mention how he appeared in the NUMBER ONE MOVIE IN THE ALL HISTORY NOW!!! There is now way they'll cut Spidey out permanently. He'll be back.

As for looking for editors, I'll be willing to lend a hand out for you.

Disney already makes money from the properties they leech off from, but as always its just never enough for satisfy their greed. Foolishness, Disney. Foolishness...:ajsleepy:

Some people want to blame Sony, others want to blame Disney, and I don't know what to think because all I ever wanted was to be able to enjoy movies without outside drama and other nonsense. However, the blame game seems to be really popular in today's society and unfortunately, nobody wants to see that no one is winning. Doesn't matter who is actually right and actually wrong because people only seem to care that they are right all the time.

That being said, I hope a deal/understanding can be reached so that we can continue to enjoy the franchise that many of us have come to love and have grown up with.

Personally, this year's movies have had some great success and not just financially. Many different fanbases have been treated to some excellent cinematic experiences. When it comes to specifically Marvel, there have been some rips in the fandom. There is a big reason I say I am not part of any fandom. Just a fan of certain franchises or shows.

Firstly, with Captain Marvel, I felt that it did not live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, the movie has plenty to celebrate with amazing visuals, an expected but still captivating twist, with characters old and new to love. The MCU has an established and intricate backstory as if it were told to you by a grandparent, which I think was the idea, so it may be a little difficult to input a prequel-like film in but they made it word. Now while I talk about enjoying movies without being effected by outside pressures, my enjoyment of the film was effected by outside forces. It is important to make distinction between actor and character; a lesson many Star Wars "fans" have a hard time learning. I have enjoyed Larson's performances in the past before so I was excited to see her take up the daunting task of bringing Carol Danvers to the big screen. Unfortunately, some of the actress' words in real life twisted my perception and I foolishly allowed it to twist my viewing of the film. When I rethought about the film, I changed my mindset on a few things which did help me enjoy it a little more. Carol's arrogance from her powers is expected because she is extremely powerful. It is to the point, where people have begun arguments of whether or not she could contend with Thor. Now the movies are different from the comics and that is all I will say on that matter. Overall, it is a good movie, just not the first on my list of Marvel favorites.

What can I say that has not already been said about Endgame? It brought an amazing conclusion to an 11 year saga filled with comedy, tragedy, love, friendships, rivalry, explosions, and many of the best comic character adaptations in cinematic history. As per usual, the action was top notch, and eye-catching. The characters were given a different view and perspective which led to growth. Not to mention, the battle of battles. It was truly a worthy film to tie together a decades worth of storytelling into a cohesive closing that allows the next generation to rise and take up the mantle.

Far From Home I felt was quite possibly the best possible epilogue to the Infinity Saga and who better than Spider-Man to do it. Peter's growth and realization of his importance to the world is expected but the emotions all around were heartfelt. Stark's sacrifice helped pave the way to this growth and I am excited to see just how else Holland can flesh out Peter Parker's character. One thing I had a problem with was not even with the film, but with how some fans complained that it wasn't a "Spider-Man" film. To that I say one thing: it is much more than that. Holland's Spider-Man is unique from both Maguire's and Garfield's in several different ways. The main I like to point out is that Holland's iteration was introduced in a larger aspect. It is not just Spider-Man. There are the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and even S.H.I.E.L.D. He was brought into a larger universe than just his own adventures so of course it may not feel like a Spider-Man movie. That's the idea, because there is more to it than him. The MCU has reached a point where it can no longer be about one specific hero because everyone's adventures affect another to a certain degree. The character himself acknowledged this when "Fury" asked for his help.

As you can tell, I am really excited about the future of Marvel and its movies!

I agree with almost everything said here. However the fact that the only good thing you had to say about Carol was "you respect her power" tells me there wasn't alot going for her actual character if you were to take the powers out of the equation. (not trying to argue. It just wasn't one of my favorite movies considering how they went about showing Fury losing his eye to a freaking cat and squeezing her between endgame at the last minute, making it seem forced.)

I liked Far from Home alot and in some ways better then homecoming. Endgame was AWESOME though in my opinion not quite as good as infinity war. But still great.

BTW where you been? haven't heard from you in over a week.

I wouldn’t say I’m a good editor, I just started my first story and been going through school lately. Captain marvel is an ok movie, Endgame and Home Coming are both amazing movies!

No! It was the fandom that killed the kid!

5110149
Carol wasn’t a bad character per say, she just seemed a bit one dimensional at times. Maybe I need to rewatch the movie because she is capable of personality, at least as far as what I’ve seen from her in Endgame (even if she was barely in the movie).

Also I was away this past week, going to Universal Studios and Disney World so I haven’t been online as much as normal.

5110239
Oh I see. Saying she was one dimensional is still technically not wrong from what I said earlier other then it just being worded more nicely. Oh I'm aware she had SOME personality. It just wasn't exactly a likable one. If a character is gonna be a jerk some of the time then they have to make up for it by being a jerk with a heart of gold. One that is funny in the tony stark kinda way. Basically she (the main character) was the weakest part of the film while more interesting people carried the story (which isn't a good thing if your main character is not even remotely the interesting part of the film) . Otherwise something other then her power would have been brought up. Her movie being "ok" is almost worse then if it had been flat out bad. People talk about good movies and bad movies. But the worse thing for a movie to be is a "meh it was ok" movie. You could honestly skip her story and still completely enjoy Endgame (though you would still need to watch the previous 20 plus movies to know the other characters before hand)

As for her being in endgame? I can't say since she was barely in it for like 10 to 15 minutes. Totally cluing people in that she was put into this movie at the last minute. She probably would have felt more in place if she was introduced sooner or later for the next phase. They could have easily told that story without her with the original big 3. And for the most part they did and since they kept the focus on them, that's why it came out awesome. Although personally I wanted to see Hulk and thanos have another rematch but instead they benched him.

Anyway Did you hear about the fight that broke out there? (or was that disney land? I could never keep those straight in my mind)

Azu

Damn have you been busy. :pinkiegasp:

As far as spiderman and the MCU goes, while I am disappointed, I cannot say that I'm surprised. This is Disney we are talking about here.

Superhuman schedule aside, how have you been, btw? :raritywink:

5110245
I’m hoping Carol will get better treatment later in the movies. Maybe they can try introducing Kamala soon, having a sidekick to train would make for good character growth.

And no, I don’t concern myself with stuff like that, especially on vacation.

5110245 5110239
I agree with you both about Captain Marvel. The movie was simply okay. Not good nor bad. It's the character that I have issues with. Carol is still one dimensional and not exactly likable. Her character is a strong female. That's it. She didn't really go through a character development arc. They want to portray as perfect. That's an issue.

She goes through all of her obstacles without a struggle. She learned to fly on her first try whereaa Tony had to learn to fly multiple times all while crashing and burning. Thor had to learn humility and how to learn to appreciate those around him whereas Carol again believe she's perfect. Simple as that. Add in her cockiness... "The only reason Thanos won was because you didn't have me"... and you have a recipe for an unlikable character.

5110260
Where have YOU been?! I tried to get in touch a few times! Where can we talk?

5110940
Azu has been on discord talking with me and others. I tried getting a hold of you a few times over there as well.

5110939
Not to mention they kinda shoehorned in that thing about her being the "first Avenger" with that thing they pulled with her aircraft. They are trying to get us to like her by having other characters talk good about her. Like when thor said "I like this one" after the only interaction they had was staring at eachother. Forced as heck, Then you got the way she came in at the last minute and nearly beat thanos by herself. My eyes were rolling when she took a direct headbutt from thanos with no sigh of budging. I see what they are trying to do. and it's not working for the fans. In the comics Thor and Hulk have always been much stronger then her. So the fact that they got nerfed while she got amped in the MCU put a bad taste in my mouth.

Azu

5110940
Like Marvelsoldier said, I've been around on Discord. I sent you a PM with more infos.

5111166
That's on me. I rarely use Discord. I'll have to use it more.

First off, it’s great hearing from you again. Things certainly sounded busy from your end.

And secondly, I’m just gonna put my two cents in here. They’re both to blame, at the end of the day they’re both greedy corporations only out to make a quick buck. I’m done pointing fingers, if I jump in it’s to make sure people at least don’t spread misinformation.

However, I’m more upset at Sony because they brought Spider-Man down to a point where this is as upsetting as it is. Spider-Man shouldn’t need the MCU to be good, but considering the state his movies were in before the deal and the state his movies are in now, it’s not looking good. Venom was one of the worst superheroes movies I’ve ever seen, the rest of the Spider-Manless Spider-Man Cinematic Universe is a bad idea, and Spider-Verse is a fluke until I see a competently made sequel cause I have a hunch Sony will meddle with that like Spider-Man 3, the Amazing movies and Venom before it now that it’s a proven success.

I tried giving Sony the benefit of a doubt before, I believed Spider-Man didn’t need the MCU or Marvel Studios’ touch to be good, and all it did was lead to even more disappointment, especially since this was during the dark ages of the character and then the email leaks happened, showing just how incompetent Sony is. MCU Spider-Man was the start of a renaissance era for the franchise, cause after he came along the comics got good again, he’s in good games again, and he has a successful movie franchise again, managing to break the $1 billion barrier at last.

But now there’s a giant empty hole in this renaissance era and I don’t think Sony has what it takes to refill it anymore.

5111479
Exactly. Spider Verse was good because Sony had NO FAITH in the movie whatsoever and kept out of it, letting Sony Animation do their thing in full. However, with it winning an Oscar and its success (critically and commercially - in spite of its lack of advertising), I have a feeling Sony will be more hands on with the sequel and it may suffer as a result. Just ask Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 2 how 'well' they did with Sony meddling.

Anyway. You are right. Spidey went through a dark age. Heck, it was exactly why Sony made the deal with Marvel- to save the character. And... It worked. Spidey was in good movies, having taken place in the most successful solo Spidey movie to date. Same with the PS4 title (Best Spidey game ever!)

In typical Parker Luck fashion, the good times came to end in heartbreaking fashion. Damn you, Sony and Disney. Your lusts for money may have doomed Spidey (and the MCU) for good. Spidey was to be the face of the MCU, but now it is Brie Larson's Capt. Marvel and she hasn't exactly the best rep right now.

perfectly honest with you its gotten to the point with me i stop taking side i was with Disney on this cause i didn't see anything wrong with a 50/50 deal not like they were asking for Venom and the others Sony still kept but now sony says if they want spider-man they gotta pay 10 billions.

5112458
Seriously? 10 billion for Spider-Man?

So I take it anything yo0ur writing is dead now?
