Let's Talk Sunset's Apartment - UPDATE · 3:32pm Aug 21st, 2019

So way WAAAAAAAY back, I did a blog analyzing what we could see of Sunset's apartment, along with some speculation about how she paid for it. I considered this incomplete because we almost always saw Sunset's apartment from the same angle, and never saw one of the walls, so we couldn't confirm some of my speculations.

With the release of the "Costume Conundrum" short, I finally got some answers.

First off, For some inexplicable reason, once you pass the bathroom, Sunset's apartment is blue instead of red.

Secondly, as we can see, this image also confirms that Sunset does have a studio apartment, and does not have a kitchen on that formerly missing wall. Not only that, this place is a lot smaller than I originally thought. Look how close that far wall is, and also, how close the couch actually is to the TV. Whoever Sunset's canonical landlord is, they better be giving her a good deal on this place. If it wasn't for the high ceiling, this would barely count as a closet.

And we now also know that, with no closet, that mini fridge and microwave is basically Sunset's only source of home cooking. I think it's logical to assume Sunset eats out a lot. (I used to live in a similar studio which also did not have a kitchen and my only cooking source was also a mini fridge and a microwave. I did a lot of eating out because I had no way to store large amounts of food and the cost was about the same in the long run.)

Next up, the cabinet and the bathroom.

As I suspected, the large cabinet on the wall does serve as Sunset's closet. I was surprised by the shoe rack though. Sunset didn't strike me as the shoe rack type. We also get confirmation that the door behind the couch leads to the bathroom. Looking at the floor we can see through the doorway, it's clearly tiled. You only get tile and/or linoelium in two rooms in most apartments: the kitchen and the bathroom. We know Sunset doesn't have a kitchen and this is the only logical place her bathroom can be.

It's so nice to be confirmed to be right. :D

On the other hand, I've also realized I've made a mistake in certain scenes in A Is For... and Consequences because of how I misinterpreted the closing shot of the "Super Squad Goals" short.

I had originally thought this might be a table Sunset had set up next to the wall we couldn't see. I hadn't spotted the edge of the keyboard and monitor in the lower right corner. Looking at it now, and seeing the angle of the window and small bureau in the background, plus the way the back of her chair is designed, it's obvious that Sunset's sitting at her desk under the loft.

And given the fact this is how Rarity, Applejack and Sunset are sitting at the beginning of "Costume Conundrum..."

... it becomes clear that the only places Sunset has anywhere to sit are the couch, her desk chair, and the stairs to the loft. So you'll find in the stories mentioned above, I was working on the assumption that Sunset had a table and chairs somewhere else in her apartment. This is clearly not the case. I'll be editing those scenes at later date. Just know that I am aware of it, and it irks the shit out of me.

So yeah, more unnecessary obsessing over Sunset's apartment. Hope you enjoyed.
