Shimmer_Bolt

To write is to create entire universes. You are a god. But will you be a kind god or a cruel god? Unfortunately, many are cruel, simply to entertain other gods.

    New Directions

I've decided to start working more on the Fallout fic and even rewriting Where the Apples Grow. It's come to my attention that it's been years since I've started here on Fimfiction and I have definitely improved, so you can expect new chapters as well as reworks of older chapters in Redemption is Magic.

    Current Update

We had initially planned to end the Fluttershy Arc in the current chapter, but after some debate, we had decided it would be better to create more buildup. Zone's character had not been fleshed out and I had originally wanted to show more of her viewpoints and emotions. Luckily, with some urgency from one of our editors, we have been able to agree upon extending this arc due to a lack of buildup

    I'm not dead.

My current silence is due to a living situation that is currently changing. I will soon be able to work on the stories again.

I might be done. · 2:25pm Aug 21st, 2019

My computer, which had all of my projects, including Where The Apples Grow has died. It will no longer charge, and it doesn't matter what cord we use.

...It was the only way I could vent, and I had so many future projects on there...

Life keeps throwing shit at me, and this is the quite possibly the worst it's done. I needed this, to keep my rage in check. Now it's gone. The chapter for Where The Apples Grow was almost finished. All that work is gone, and I don't think I can recreate it all.

...I think I'm done. With my shit job, I don't think I can afford another.

My fic, which was my child, is possibly dead.

I'm really sorry :ajsleepy:

If I can get a new computer, I can try coming back, but... all that writing.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Depending on whether or not it was a laptop; it could be a dead battery

Did you back it up?

Were you writing it on word document or a google docs. Because if it’s the latter of the two then you could salvage it on your phone

There’s also that.

So not all Hope is lost.

My sympathies, I had this problem too a while ago. Your story is really well made.

Whatever you do, DON'T THROW IT AWAY!!!

I can't stress this enough, most people are computer illiterate, and don't know that you can salvage your hard drive, and just end up throwing the whole thing away.

So please, PLEASE don't do that.

Nothing is ever backed up. I don't trust cloud storage.

I will attempt to fix it, but there are no promises.

Inevitably, I'll try to restart the lost chapter and continue, but I'm just in a really bad point in life right now.

If you lived where I live there is a friend I know who is a whiz at fixing stuff like this

You're welcome! I had once al my written chapters corrupted but luckily, I had an indirect backup. I send them to my proofreader/friend through PMs, so I could just copy them back into word

If you need money to fix the computer (sounds like the power supply is shot, which is cheap to replace thankfully) then why not set up a Patreon/GoFundMe/Kofi to do so? I would happily donate once I have some money!

Save the hard drive as you can get a cable that will let you plug it in another computer via USB and access the files you have on it

Is there anything we can do to help? Dropbox is useful for something like this.

Could it just be the battery?
There may be ways to pull the information off your computer by bringing it to someone.

Sorry to hear that dude. If you’re ever able to find a way to get back into the swing of things, i’d highly recommend getting a usb drive

5109454 My mom got a new desktop and transferred all of her data from her old laptop to the desktop, so there may be a way for you to do the same

I want to help if I can... So I'm going to ask a few basic computer questions.

First question: is it a laptop, or a desktop? Is it windows 7/8/10, Is it a mac?!?! we need to know these things to help you more.

(This is referring to if it's a laptop or desktop) That Is important, as a laptops hard drive is different from a desktop. (This is key to restoring your computer.)

Second question: Do you have a USB? Pretty much any size will do. But as they say, the bigger the better. ;) {Kill me.}

Anyway. that Is important because you can backup the chapter you were working on. (And take it on the go, of course.)

Third question: Do you have a computer available to you, even if it's a family member or neighbors that you can barrow.

You can just simply take your hard drive out of your computer. (Make sure it's unplugged first.) and put it in place of the other computers hard drive. (Again, make sure it's UNPLUGGED. not turned off, It NEEDS to be unplugged.) (Once unplugged, make sure to also hit the power button, you know, all that pesky residual power still in there.)

Should you have a USB (which is recommended on having before attempting this.) you can (As previously stated.) Back up your chapter, and continue said chapter at your local library. (They should have computers there.)

That is, should you decide to actually do this.

Hopefully, even if you don't take my advice, this all works out for you in the end.

Cheers!

It could be the charging port. They do go bad from time to time. And replacing the charging port can be pretty cheap.

It's a tablet that acts as a computer. With a detachable keyboard.

There's nothing to remove. It's all built in.

I'm so sorry, Shimmer_Bolt.

Try to get the hard drive, you might be able to salvage your data.

Well shit. nothing I can do then, I would suggest taking it in to someplace that specializes in that sort of thing then. (data transfer that is)

You could probably just use google/bing to look for places near you.

At one time years ago I lost everything on my PC like every file, game, programs and vids. My PC is a bit jumbled so random stuff is happening to it and I'm still trying to fix it by watching videos on YouTube to help fix it and my friend's instructions. Some bits work now

5109454
All that writing? I made it a challenge just to get all the stuff I lost back, sure I didn't get everything back but I got new thing in return. The same when I sometimes play video games with my brother or cousin when we lost all our progress and started getting all that lost progress back by doing different things we thing than what we have done before.

I believe in you

Have you taken it in to a repair shop to ask if it can be fixed? Even the soldered sealed Ipads can be fixed.

This might sound weird when my tablet stop charging I got a pin and dug around in the charging port and pulled a heap of lint out of it the lint was stopping it from being able to get a charge

if you have any other machine available to you, you could look up how to remove the hard drive from your laptop and attach it toanother machine to copy the files off
