Trembling by Cold in Gardez
Genre: Future Fic
Scootaloo goes for a flight, out where nopony lives.
~~Scootaloo, flying? What is this nonsense.~~ I like how the opening scene of this is very Lost Cities, just with an actor. Beyond strong imagery, though, this features a good scenario for the grown-up CMCs, and a good resolution to its problem. Definitely worth it if you like them!

During the first Hearth's Warming, one pony stayed behind.
Oh my god, I'm done with An Apple a Day! :D Amazing! And this story is a great way to end it. Not only the reason why Single Hoof stayed behind when everypony else went to found Equestria, but what happened to him afterward. This is great world-building!

Letter from a Coward by Esle Ynopemos
Genre: Epistolary
Fluttershy's father writes her a letter.
It's heartbreaking, mostly because I feel like Fluttershy got the worst parents in the show. She could have had parents who were so much more interesting! But, well, here's a good letter written by an interesting character with a solid reveal at the end.

Genre: Dark
Trixie sought the Amulet's power once more.
This gets dark, but it's still got heart. Doesn't go as far as it could, in other words. I'll say Zecora's dialogue is not as great as it could be, but one does not expect such in these small fics.

It's been gray and overcast for three weeks.
AppleDashers will likely get a lot out of this, but if you're not into shipping? Good news, this isn't shipping! It's just a really cool moment with AJ and Rainbow Dash, not to mention some really solid character work on Applejack's part. Check it out!

This is just a simple briefing of a seapony military commander telling a class about what sorts of threats they will be preparing to fight in the future. There's not a lot of story, but this could be a good basis for an underwater adventure!

A pony in the Dragon Lands is about to die.
I have to admit, I felt a little lost in this one. The opening scene really sets up a much funnier story than we got, I feel, though it is pretty funny. An interesting and unusual look into dragon-based science!

Ripple tries to repair a toaster.
You'll not be able to read this unless you've read The One Who Got Away, and if you haven't yet, you should, because it's excellent. This is also excellent! It's just a short foray back into the characters' world, but it's so true to form, it's just amazing. Well done.

Twilight Velvet just wishes she could have had some warning.
This is a short but powerful look into what has to be sacrificed to keep Equestria safe. I do love stories of this sort, and this one didn't need to be any longer than it is to work.

Sassy Saddles and Rarity overhear something disagreeable in a bar.
The thing that really gets me is how this story was conceived, as detailed in the A/N. Well, that and how satisfying this is for how short it is. :)

Did I mention that Abecedarian is not actually dead like we all assumed he was? Because that's some good news, shove that in your happy place. :D And this is a cool story, taking place in the Wendigoes' point of view and detailing how they have suffered. I think it wouldn't have worked nearly as well as it does if not for where it ends.

Rainbow Dash and Featherweight go to the moon.
Here's one from last year's Trotcon speedfic panel! This is really funny if you don't take it too seriously, as it involves Rainbow Dash kissing Featherweight, and it's really gross focused on that detail. But that was kind of a thing that year, as I recall, hence the weirdness. And what a last line, my god.

Smolder's not having fun in Pinkie Pie's class.
The contest may be over (as of publication?), but the feghoots continue! This was actually a pretty decent look at the Student Six, and Smolder dealing with frustration as to her perceived shortcomings.

Friendly Pony Fluttershy by Loganberry
Genre: Filk
While I may have finished An Apple a Day, I'm also just now starting this one. Go figure. :B Though I usually barf at the mere mention of filk, this one's actually funny, so it counts as parody. The main joke is the song being used, so I won't spoil it, but suffice to say Logan did a really good job coming up with lyrics for it!
