More Bronycon Followup. With pictures! · 2:14am Aug 10th, 2019
It's Friday night, and I've got nothing better to do, so, uh ... here's a handful of BronyCon pics!
First off, The Lines. People weren't kidding about 'em. Seriously, here's what the line to the Vendor's Hall looked like on Thursday afternoon. You'd think they were giving out free drugs in there or something.
However, due to SCHENANIGANS (i.e: horizon flashing his Important Person Badge to get me into the hall so as to stock the bookstore with my meager offerings), I was able to bypass the huge line. And look at this! Something I wrote! On a shelf! Like I was a real people author or something!
And I saw this dude next to the BronyCon bookstore, doing solid business throughout the weekend. Honestly, now that I think of it, I wish I'd plunked down the five bucks so I could make him listen to my ramblings on the CarrotSentry ship (which I invented, I should note), but I digress.
Speaking of ships, however, Baltimore has a LOT of those. So whenever I'd get sick of waiting in lines or whatever, I'd go off wandering and spent the cash moneys for the Museum Boat Tours. They're actually pretty neat! Even if the tour guides on the U.S.S. Constellation get a little salty if you compare them to the U.S.S. Constitution.
Eventually, though, I made it back to the 'con. And somewhere along the line, somebody started a "RIP BronyCon" shrine, which only steadily grew and grew over the course of the con. Press F to pay respects. (Seriously, that was written on a piece of paper somebody laid down). This is honestly a pic of the memorial early on, as by the end of the con there was a ton of stuff there, including somebody hanging out playing sad funeral music from a bluetooth speaker. All it was missing was a bugler playing Taps, to be honest.
But let's not be sad! As there was a lot of neat stuff going on! Like one of the few panels I was able to get into-- "Let's Make a Twilight's Secret Shipfic Folder Card." Based on crowdsourcing (read: yelling), we all decided on Kirinu Leaves. He's Breathtaking.
In any case, I'm not much of a photographer-- I'm sure there are far better visual records of the con than I can provide. As again, there was a LOT to take in (and honestly you were pretty lucky if you got to see a fraction of it). There was quite a bit of cosplay, of course-- pretty much All The Ponies, as well as various Avengers, memes, and animes and the like. For whatever reason, it seemed like Fluttershy was the most-cosplayed pony (perhaps followed by Pinkie Pie). I didn't take much in the way of cosplay photos-- again, better folk than I have that covered. Except ... on the last day of the con, I stumbled across BEST FLUTTERSHY. At which point the following exchange occured:
Me: "Your outfit is horrifying and wonderful."
Her: "Thank you!"
She then started following me around the con, staring at the back of my head with her soulless, dead eyes. It Follows: Pony Edition.
I probably deserve this.
I mean, Fluttershy is the best character for a stare that follows you across the room, out of the convention center, and back to your hotel.
Still wish we'd been able to meet in person, though...
Did you say free drugs?

Truth be told, it ended up being "or something". Specifically, it was ponywords that had been placed on papers that had been bound together with various backings and adhesives. And you actually had to pay someone to take them home with you. All in all, I'd say "or something even better".
