A Message to Everyone I Met at the Last BronyCon · 5:10pm Aug 6th, 2019
Two words:
A lot more words:
I went to the last-ever BronyCon with every intention of blogging about amusing vignettes, as I did last year.
I failed.
And I think I know the reason. While the thing was an absolute blast, there was an air of sincerity about it all, which did not lend itself well to wacky hijinks. But that's okay, because it was appropriate for the last one. I told a lot of people what a privilege it was to know them, and I know I wasn't the only one. Hijinks are good, but sincerity is also good.
The experience of meeting all of you--yes, you--at BC2019 is a memory I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my days. And I feel I must hold it very close indeed, as a sort of secret between you and I, or else the sincerity of this message will give way to sappiness. But I will quote Mr. Reeves again, to those who know who they are: You're breathtaking.
There is only one vignette I absolutely must relate. During the Fimfic authors' dinner at the Tir Na Nog grill, Shakespearicles stood up and asked for our attention. He launched into a short but impassioned speech of the sort you normally only see in the movies. I wish I could remember the whole thing, but the most important part is what stuck with me:
"Some people say the ride is over, but they're wrong. [...] I'm staying on until the wheels fall off, and then I'm going to get out and push!"
Thunderous applause ensued.
I'm not sure what comes next, but I'll be there, and I hope you will too. This one's for you.
All the best,
Horse Voice
That's probably the best way to put it. Last year was the best BC I've ever had in terms of hijinks. As far as sincerity? Nothing can compare to BC19.
I'll be there until there is nothing left to push and I have to carry you all. And I'll do it with a Smile!
I take it you weren't part of Raugos's freeze-dried durian taste test. To say nothing of the Keanu cosplayer getting into infinite "No, you're breathtaking!" loops with random passersby.
At least, I think that was a cosplayer...
But yeah, overall, this was a very sincere and heartfelt Bronycon, and one to cherish in memory.
I dunno about hijinks and mischief. I got into a feghoot duel with RobCakeran… and I think, given the outcome, he would rate me highly for mischief.
I know, I look so responsible. But sometimes I'm a very naughty pony
Here's a bit of the video I took during the toast! The first part that I didn't catch was, "Everyone that says this is the end is wrong!"
5100800 I'm so glad someone was recording! Thank you!
It was a wonderful convention, and I look forward to getting out and pushing with you down the line.
It was great to talk with you a bit, and thank you again for signing my copy of the Nightmare Nights anthology.
I'll try my best to help push the cart when the time comes.
It truly was like the movies. So damn cool...
It was a pleasure meeting you and getting a copy of Biblical Monsters signed by you. I was a Flim cosplayer.
Even though it was the last bronycon, we can still do a lot more things to continue our story
It was a pleasure to see you once again, Horse Voice.

And all this time, I thought you were Flam!
Voice! Tis I, Kalash. Was great to meet you in person finally after seeing your works so many times. You're even smarter in person.

Somewhat different words, but feel like you were channeling a bit of John Belushi there. :D
💙💜💚
It was nice seeing you in person again. You probably didn't notice me, but I was the guy in the sombrero sitting right next to you at the Monday meet-up at Jimmy Johns. Never worked up the nerve to talk to you, but it was nice to see one of my favorite horse authors in the flesh regardless.

...Oh dear. Unfortunately I wasn't there, because I was waiting for the train at the time. You were perhaps thinking of Bad Horse?
5108828
...Damn it, you're right. I don't know why I confused you two; he looks nothing like you.
Sorry!

If it's any comfort, so many people have made that mistake--often to both our faces--that it's become a running gag.

His body type is a little similar to yours, and his voice has a similar pitch. I think where I got confused was somebody at Jimmy Johns just referred to him as "Horse", and I just assumed he was you from the name and his voice (didn't look at him very closely, as I was too focused on others talking at the meet-up).
Regardless of the confusion, I'm glad BronyCon was an enjoyable experience for you!
