Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

    One final thing...

I have been advised by no less an authority than CHS acting Vice-Principal Ms. Cheerilee to use the upcoming Midnight Rising chapter as strictly a recap to relaunch the story, and not get into Lemon Zest until the following chapter, when I can devote a full entry to it without any split in focus. No, really. She did. You’ll see what I mean when the chapter launches, but basically, I’m

I have reached a decision on Midnight Rising...

Thanks in part to one final comment that came to me over PM last night. It wasn't a mean comment. In fact, it was nothing but a simple, politely asked question from a reader I hadn't heard from before: do you have to read the griffon chapters to understand what comes after?

And now for something completely different... · 9:29pm Jul 25th, 2019

As mentioned in my previous blog entry, I've decided to indulge one of my idea bunnies and take a break from my regular stories to write a one-shot next. It will take place nominally in the Phoenixverse of Turnabout Storm and The Lawyer and the Unicorn, but Phoenix Wright himself will not be present--though he will be less than happy when he finally learns where Celestia decides to take Twilight.

Inspired by the HBO series Chernobyl, which I watched in full a few weeks back, Celestia will escort Twilight in secret to the site of the worst nuclear accident in human history. Her aim is to show her student something that reflects both very poorly and very well on humanity, with the intention of teaching her several important--but very uncomfortable--lessons in the process.

Twilight will initially come in ignorant of the place and what transpired there, to say nothing of the danger that still lurks all around. An education will follow as Celestia guides her from place to place, letting Twilight slowly deduce the progressively more troubling and even terrifying tale of what happened there on her own. The tone will be dark and brooding, much like the HBO series itself. But Celly has good reasons for everything she does, and there are both cautionary lessons for ponies as well more positive and inspirational lessons about humanity she wants Twilight to draw from the whole affair.

2200 words are already written and I'll be aiming for a release sometime around the middle of next week. I'm not sure how long it will be in the end, but it might reach several chapters (okay, technically not a one-shot then, but it will still be released as a completed story). After this, I'll return to Firefly. In the meantime, your indulgence and interest is appreciated. And needless to say, I would appreciate folks giving it a try when the time comes as I attempt to write something very new and different for me.

I'll offer up a teaser later when I've got a more polished product.
