Just an idea that popped into my head. · 6:45pm Jul 15th, 2019
So two months ago Brightburn dropped in theaters, and I didn't get around to seeing it. But the idea of a Superman horror movie is strange I'll give it that.
Well, I was working a chapter a few minutes ago where Kerax is talking to Comet about resynchronizing his parent's memories after Nightmare Moon corrupted them. And I got to thinking what if some essence of the Sands of Hyponos remained in Comet's mind, too weak to trap him in his dreams but still lingering in the back, waiting for a blast of dark magic to strengthen it enough to take over his mind.
In the waking world, the Black Sands christens itself as Nightburn. His coat is pitch black like Nightmare Moon and his mane and tail are starry as well. But whereas Nightmare Moon's was dark blue like the night sky, Nightburn's is red like a nebula. His eyes glow like a fiery red.
His costume consists of a black bodysuit with a red nebula shaped emblem on his chest depicting the letter N. A crimson red cape and hood hides his face except for his eyes which burn thru the darkness within. His hooves sport red boots similar to Nightmare Moon's.
Like an inverse of Comet, Nightburn draws his power from the moonlight. Every night he takes over Comet's mind and proceeds to terrorize Equestria, using his powers to stop anyone who stands up to him. Of course, unlike the movie, he doesn't actually kill or hurt anyone badly, but he causes a lot of damage and leaves everypony he encounters shaking with fear. Come the morning Comet is left not know what has happened only learning there is another super threat to Equestria that he has to stop. With every night, Nightburn grows stronger and more destructive asserting more control over Comet's actions during the day. He becomes more argumentive with the Apple Family and his friends and begins behaving more aggressively. His ultimate goal is to become strong enough to come out during the day and of course finish what Nightmare Moon started.
Ultimately it's going to take the efforts of the Elements of Harmony, Princess Luna and Comet himself trapped once again inside his mind to stop Nightburn.
So like I said this is just an idea I had, let me know what you think?
Actually, in addition to the loose basis on "Brightburn", this ALSO sounds like a good analogue to Ultraman (Superman's Crime Syndicate counterpart) with some elements of Bizarro (at least in the sense of being a Superman clone created by a villain). So I say, go for it.
