New Story Soon · 12:21am Jul 7th, 2019

Howdy, peeps!

It’s been longer than I’ve wanted it to be, but shorter than I feared it would end up being since the last story, and I’ve got a new one almost ready to go! This is a bit of a departure from me, we’ve gone full Dieselpunk AU for it, complete with robots. Though, you know, not too far, because still romance. Here’s a preview of the story page:

There’s still a smidge of work left to go to finish it off; I’ve got the cover art to do and it’s still going through some edits, the usual odds and ends still in progress when I post blogs like this. Everything should be done over the next few days with the story going up early-to-mid next week. GDocs is telling me the current word count is around 11,600 words, which will be published all at once as a finished short story.

Since finishing and posting the last story, True Love’s Kiss, things went mostly according to plan. I worked on original fiction for a while, and, after over five years of off-and-on writing, screaming, crying, editing, and swearing, I managed to finish the first draft of my OF novel. Then, after some more screaming, crying, and swearing out of relief, I got back to work on pony. As I said last time, I’m planning to stick with just pony for a couple of months, both to let that novel sit and chill out for a bit before coming back to edit it, and to get a chance to get some good uninterrupted ponewords written. This’n is the first of those ponewords, and was a fun departure. Although…I keep saying it’s a departure (probably because 90% of everything I’ve posted on this site features the Slice of Life tag), it’s actually pretty in line with the sort of original fiction I write. I’m a total sucker for Dieselpunk and other types of retrofuturism, and it was a lot of fun reimagining Equestria as a setting where that makes sense. I’m very happy with how this one turned out, and if it looks interesting to you, I hope you’ll check it out.

Next in the writing pipeline will be more pony, though I haven’t fully settled on what pony it’s going to be just yet. I have a couple of choices, both of which are screaming, “Pick me! Pick me!” in my ear, but I haven’t picked a winner. Whichever one I end up working on after Captain of the Sky is online will retroactively be declared the loudest screamer. When that’s been settled and I’ve gotten to work, I’ll update the Current Projects module on my user page, so keep an eye on that if you’re wanting more details. Neither choice is something that will take an inordinately long time to write, so although I have a short trip out of town coming up here soon, I should have something new up on the site much faster than the current 4-6 week turnaround that's been the norm for this stretch of active writing. I know better than to make promises, but I’d really like to get at least four things written and up on the site before I change focus off of pony again. So all things going according to plan, expect to see me more often around these parts for a while here.

That’s all I got, time to get to drawing cover art. TTFN.
