Who Wants a Book? · 5:35pm Jul 4th, 2019

I’ve at last reached the point where my books are, more or less, ready to be ordered. I’ve got a few small changes to make, but nothing too strenuous. Little edits here or there. I’ve ordered test copies, but I ended up doing so very late because the cover art proved far more problematic than I anticipated. I was hoping to have the test copies in before Aquaman’s July 7th deadline so I can do any necessary tweaks, but that’s looking increasingly less likely.

So come Saturday I’m going to make the order, and if there are issues they’ll just have to add to their character, won’t they? As things stand, I plan to bring the following:

Eight copies of The Gentle Nights: Audience of One, paperback, $11.50.

Four copies each of Bulletproof Heart in paperback ($21.00) and hardback ($33.00).

Eight copies of a short story collection, Foundations, paperback, $9.30, which will include the following:

The Secret Weapon
Swoop
Report
Icing
Foundations
The Fourth Season
The Last Season (Phone Call to a Pony)
Sweet to Eat
Lessons in Generosity
Study of Generosity
Friend of Generosity
Allure of Generosity
Escape
Of Angels
Banned for a Reason
Clockwork
Ticks and Tocks
What is Missing, What is Lost
Drops of Jupiter

The price tag is based upon: actual cost for me to order the books, dividing the shipping cost among all books on a scale proportional to each book’s individual cost, and a tiny percentage to provide that I’ll make a profit if all the books sell. I was originally going to sell them at cost, but then I remembered that the whole point of the Bookstore is to demonstrate that fanfiction writers can make a profit on their work just like artists and musicians, so I did that bump. I wouldn’t make much, but that was never the point.

I will be ordering the books on July 7th, Aquaman’s deadline. If anyone wants to pre-order a copy of a book for the price listed above, feel free to PM me and let me know. In the highly unlikely event that there are more pre-orders than books I plan to order, then I’ll order to match the pre-order. I will not be accepting unpaid reservations because I don’t want to risk buying X books more than I originally planned only to get to Bronycon and have the potential buyers back out. Ordering these things is expensive, y’know? I’ll be accepting pre-order payments through PayPal, which is pretty much my only means of doing so.

If someone wants to buy a book after Bronycon, or is not going to Bronycon in the first place, I’d be happy to have them shipped directly from Lulu to your address, although the individual price would have to be adjusted to account for shipping to different locations. I don’t want to make the books publicly available on Lulu quite yet.

So... anyone want to pre-order a book?

I'm definitely picking up a copy of Bulletproof Heart at the con.

Can you bring one more copy of each of those (except I'd prefer the hardback) for me? That shit is going to sell out quickly.

Good to know! I’ll let you know if the pre-orders overwhelm my intended stock.

5084196
As I mentioned above, I don’t intend to reserve anything unless it is pre-ordered. I appreciate your confidence in me selling out, but I’m not going to go in expecting that at all.

But if you pre-ordered via PM, I can put the books in reserve for you to pick up at the con. :raritywink: Price won’t be any different, it’s just a means of making sure I don’t order more than I need.

5084199
Sure, I totes want to preorder your stuff. Do you need me to PM you separately to remind you?

5084207
PM me separately just so that we don’t share money-related stuff in the comments, plz.

Bulletproof Heart for me in Harback. I will PM.

I’m planning on having to beg Aquaman for some kind of extension due to a fabulously mistimed trip that I need to take when my books would otherwise arrive, so feel free to do so as well!

Much as I would love a hardcover Bulletproof Heart, I am a broke college student so...

5084245
To be honest, I think if I wait for my test copies to come in then there won’t be enough time for the real thing to arrive before I leave. Then again, I may have an alternative option. Keep forgetting t check that.

5084246
Eh, been there. Well the books will still be available for that point when you can afford them, so no big deal.

I have a doubt the shipment can be to another country

5084839
Actually, it might be possible. If you give me the address to ship to (in a private PM, of course), I can test it and see what they say. And even if they won’t, I can always order the book, have it shipped to myself, and then personally ship it internationally. But I’d much rather Lulu did it, because shipping it to me then to you would make it significantly more expensive.

But there’s no harm in trying, so yeah, send me an address and I’ll test it.

5084839
Actually, I take that back:they’re bound to! One of the first options they ask when you order is what country you’re in. the option wouldn’t be there if they couldn’t ship internationally.

Is this in addition to that survey order we filled out?

5086149
The original plan was to make as part of the survey, so if I was going to bring five of a book and four got pre-ordered, only one would be available at the con. But I got more pre-orders than I expected, so I’m thinking I’ll just order extras on top of the pre-orders so that walk-ins can grab one if they want to. I’m still going to have an extremely limited supply though.

5086153
Well if I still can 1 of each with Bulletproof in hardback.

5086155
No problem, although I point out only BPH has a hardback copy. Did you want to pre-order or get it at the con?

5086281
I'll get it at the con. I've got quite a pickup list.
