Okay, can anyone here hear thousands of headcanons screaming and burning? ...Cause if so, it's not just me then and I can officially stop calling myself crazy.
Okay, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Truth be told, I'm sorta... divided on the episode. Okay, yes it finally shuts down the headcanon that Scootaloo is an orphan and it introduced Scootaloo's aunts, but on the other hand... Hoo boy.
Can't say if I'm really a fan of her parents or not. On the one hand, they're obviously loved by Scootaloo and the traveling parents' angle is a real-life situation for many children, but on the other... I'm not sure if I liked how it was handled. For one, it does seem that both Snap and Allgood don't really seem to give a damn about their kid, given they suddenly show up after god knows how long and suddenly decide to say "Hey, you're coming with us kiddo, forget your friends!" to some effect.
Also, there's the fact they pretty much dump their kid on a role of rotating ponies, even her aunts who can only show up on weekends... for whatever reason. You'd think this would get a few eyebrows raised, and a few questions asked.
Okay, to be fair as I said this sort of situation isn't entirely out there, and Scootaloo does love her parents so there's obviously something there and again they could have shown up before and it's just never been mentioned cough -wonder why that is?- cough before. They've probably become so used to moving around and not having a permanent home that they've forgotten how important it can be at worst.
Look, I'm not actively trying out of my way to demonize the two, I'm just sorta divided in equal measure on them.
...Okay, now how many 'Scootaloo's parents are neglectful!' fics do you think this will spawn, to replace the Orphanloo ones? I shudder to think of the 'Scootaloo's parents are killed off' ones that may follow. Oh, don't deny it fandom. We are that cruel.

Ugh, I'm almost tempted to simply skip the espiode due to the feedback I've heard. I'll watch it, but to me I'm not considering it canon. Scootaloo already has better parents than they'd EVER be.

This was four or five seasons to late IMHO. The producers did a lot of damage to Scootaloo by delaying it this long. I dedicate this song to her parents and hope they get a clue.

I feel like I might've hated them in any other circumstance, but I found the whole situation with them and Scootaloo... a little relatable, to be honest. Granted, I had plenty of time with my parents and they weren't half the world away, but there were plenty of times where my single mother (who I spent the week with) was either at work or asleep because she had the night shift. Like I said, it's nowhere near Scootaloo's situation, but it's close enough that I can't bring myself to feel furious about it, you know what I mean?
Thanks to the Italian leaks, I was able to write a little story inspired by this episode well in advance. Not really an "accusation fic", so to speak, but rather an attempt to rationalize everything that happened. Some headcanons, a small flashback sequence, bada-bing, bada-boom, it exists.
If I'd wanted to, I could've published it the moment the credits rolled, but I held out. I figured I'd peek at the Discussion page and the blog reviews and, taking others' reactions in mind, tweak the story accordingly.
A part of me wishes I'd just published it. Now I have no idea if it'll even see the light of day. I'm basically running around like a headless chicken.
Is the story too defensive of Mane Allgood and Snap Shutter's actions? Are they too sympathetic? Not sympathetic enough? What is the best way to portray the situation it that ensures that I
A: like what I've written
B: have not compromised my own thoughts on the episode,
and C: do not find myself drowning in notifications from people commenting that I'm a legitimately terrible person because I dared to give Scootaloo's parents the benefit of the doubt?

It's a official. This is the season where headcanons and ships will be smashed by a single episode. Now all we need is Derpy saying that Dinky isn't her child and Lyrabon getting destroyed and we're officially through.

Compared to the other CMCs and Diamond Tiara... I'd say she pretty much has the better parents. Sweetie's parents is similar to Scootaloo's except worst cause her parents sort of dumped her on Rarity to take care of, and it seems like they're having fun while Rarity is actually taking on the parental responsibilities for taking care of their child. Rarity has three boutiques running and a child to take care of, while we don't even a clue what her parents are doing. Hey, at least Scootaloo's parents had jobs to do.
Apple Bloom would probably prefer to have her parents to be like Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo instead of them just being dead. She doesn't even remember her parents all that much.
Diamond Tiara has a terrible mother and a father that lets her have her way all the time.
So Scootaloo definitely has the better parents here.

Yeah, well... Uh, Sombra's pretty well and definitely dead this time in the season premiere no less, and if you read it on INMD or however it's spelled those episodes have been confirmed to be fake. I mean, the premise that said Fluttercord to be happening was fairly obvious to be fake, given there's an unspoken rule about having no romance with any mane six members.
