Random Thoughts: Sitting in an airport · 5:25pm Jun 5th, 2019
I'm literally sitting in an airport waiting to board my flight, which is delayed.
This isn't the first time I've flown alone. The first time was in 2016. It was also the last time I flew.
Simply put, I don't fly often. I keep forgetting that you almost gotta strip for TSA.
Packing for a flight is kinda like moving. You have to come to terms with how much crap you have, and if TSA will let it through. I had to extensively comb through my backpack, which I haven't cleaned out in years.
Airports are interesting places. Little bit of a mini city or micro country. They're fascinating from an architectural standpoint. Most buildings are designed as a place of dwelling. You spend most your life at home or at work/school. You live in both locations.
Airports, and any other terminal/station, are fleeting spaces. You don't dwell in them, you pass through them, often not noticing them. These buildings are designed for mobile efficiency. The building is then praised for its function, rather than it's form.
However, that does not mean form can be ignored. A good architect will find the harmony of both.
People in airports are interesting. Here we are all stuffed together, yet in our own little worlds experiencing our own little lives. Even though we are all forced into the same reality, people are talking in their phones or absorbing media.
People in groups talk amongst themselves.
As a single bystander, it's fun to listen in and catch of their individual lives.
Well, boarding has started, but I will be among the last on.
By this time you're probably where I'm going.
This is actually one of two on my return flight. I've been in Chicago the last few days, studying the city and its architecture.
Everything hurts. I don't want to do any more hiking, or even walking, any time soon.
But, I had fun. I don't have many chances to get away, so I use these class trips as my mini vacations.
I got my deepdish and my Chicago dog. Even tried some Sake in Chinatown.
But, I'm ready to go home. The big city is just not for me. Though, I'm in no rush.
Good-bye, Chicago. You're a nice town. I just wouldn't want to live there.
For the rest of you, I'll see y'all when I land.
Hope you had a good vaycay!
