A good story isn't measured by how long it is, but by how long it stays with you.

  • TInto the Dark
Equestria has fallen to a curse of eternal darkness. Together with the spirit of Luna, a stallion seeks to return the sun and moon to the sky, before the Devourer consumes all.

Into the Dark Hardcopy Edition! · 10:12am May 30th, 2019

Hey, guys!

So, if you read that title and are all like, "wait, what?" Then you probably read it correctly. In light of the whole Bronycon Bookstore thing making the rounds through the Fimfiction news grinder, I've been steadily working on a hardcopy edition of Into the Dark. That means rewriting it from the ground up based on my 2019 skill level and writing standards.

To that end, it's a hell of an undertaking, and I'd be remiss if I didn't let you all know I was doing this, because what this means is that I intend to replace all the current chapters of ItD with their new versions once I've completed this. So effectively, this is both me tossing some hype your way while simultaneously notifying you in case you want to download an epub for posterity's sake. Given the submission deadline for the Bookstore is July 4th, expect this update no later than that, but I will throw up another notification blog before making the switch.

To anyone else reading this, I plan to do the same for my story For the Benefit of Mr Kite.

For now, get hype, and as always,
Onward and Upward!

I forgot to say: I plan on making print runs post Bcon. Just, for now that's what I'm focused on, since it's the one thing with a hard deadline.

That's fantastic to hear, man! Looking forward to it!

Looking forward to adding this to my (real life) book shelf. My wallet is going to hate me so much after BronyCon...

Mine is, too. I already plan on working so many overtime shifts beforehand, it's not even funny.

Yay (or perhaps "Oh joy..." is more appropriate?) more books.

This year's convention season's going to be expensive. Not that it was ever cheap to begin with. Definitely keeping an eye on this one.

Replacing the chapters in place would invalidate all the comments already posed on them. Why not post the rewrite as its own thing? Or do the site rules explicitly prohibit that?

It won't invalidate them. I'm updating the writing, not the events of the story. And iirc, posting a new version of a story as a completely different story is against the rules.

I only just found out about this, and now I feel stupid. Not that I've made the time to finish it in the first place, but going over it to comment on the prose and look for typos feels pointless now...

Surprisingly, the all quotes you’ve pulled from the story and used in your comments made the cut and still exist in the story proper almost verbatim. If you’d like, I can hold off on posting the remastered version for a few more days so you can finish the original write. Otherwise, I was going to update it here sometime tomorrow or the day after.

No, no, you do you. In truth, while I do intend to read it all so I can decide if I want to snag a physical copy while at Bronycon, my original intent had been to make an editing pass over it, see if I could point out any missed typos or odd turns of phrase, and after a few chapters I realized that
a) this is already of such an astounding quality that I wasn't finding anything to criticize about it
b) I still have many other pony words to read through that aren't quite as finely polished
c) the deadline you all had for ordering/submission/whatever was fast approaching

So I had decided to put it on the back burner, I think about 10 days ago now? I decided to focus on GaPJaxie's Around the World in 81 Days, though unfortunately I still didn't finish that one in time. At this point, I'm too late to provide any feedback that could affect the Bookstore orders, so I spent yesterday going through the whole list of what's on offer to see what is/will be on-demand via Lulu and what's unconfirmed, and started relaxing a bit.

All of which was way more information than you asked for, but it's been a long day for me and this helps me unwind. The point being, do whatever you need to -- I've actually been reading an offline version (FiMFIc's automatic ebook), so even if you did update the story pages, I can still finish the old version and also compare it to the new.

Heh, I had no idea that's what you were going for, but all the power to you. I'll keep an eye out for you at the con! Be sure to say hi!
