They're considered over-the-top, overpowered and cheap as a beginning OC to have. Alicorns are the most exceptionally gifted in magical prowess, and they're meant to be very few and far between. Just casually making one without any effort earning it takes away the magic and uniqueness.

Because alicorns aren’t exactly seen as much as unicorns, Pegasi, and earth ponies. They’re special in their own way.
