    Give the CMC some motivation

I've been reading a bunch of Anon-a-Miss fics lately and have noticed a trend. A lot of people flesh out Sunset and her past, present and future. A good number of them give other side characters a chance to shine, from Gilda to Octavia, from Sirens to shadowbolts. A lot less give their time to the main 5 and how and why they react like they do. But I haven't seen any (yet) that give the CMC some

Ideas and what to do with them · 12:03am May 29th, 2019

I have story ideas so I think I will post them here.
That is what the first part of this post is about.
The second is a story idea I had.

I have described myself as not an author at the top of my profile, but sometimes I get hit by inspiration for one reason or another. At those times I have a story idea or sometimes just a world building idea in my mind. Up until now I have either just played with them in my mind till I forgot them never to be seen again or shared them via discord with a friend. I once tried to actually write a fic myself but trust me when I say: I am no author even if I sometimes wish I was.
So today I remembered that fimfiction has a blog function that I haven't used, ever. And that I think it is sad when my ideas, that I think are decent and that got the seal of approval from said friend, will just vanish in the aether. So I decided to copy paste them here. A heads up, those are ideas that either sprung in the heat of a moment or literally while typing them out, therefore they can contain inconsistency errors and all the other good stuff that happens when one writes down a half fleshed out idea. (I am sure any author knows...)
If you or anyone you know wants to share or write a fic with them or whatever, feel free to do so, that is why I put them out there in the first place.
Chances are good that if a fic that was even slightly inspired by these springs to existence I will probably like it, so ... I'd like you to send me a link so I can read it too, if you don't mind. :fluttershysad:

So here is one. Fun fact, I kinda got inspired by this pic by rameslack on derpibooru, /2049842

Anyway...

Foreword:
I like to see Sweetie Belle go badass and she seems to be the type for it, at least compared to the rest of the CMC. Probably because she is the only CMC with onscreen parents, she'd be more likely to go evil. It's one of the tropes that heroes have the sad origin story, especially dead parents. So SB can't be a hero like that.
So what can make her go down the path of (relative) evil? While I wrote that down, I wanted to keep the path morally ambiguous enough that one can tell themself that they are doing the good thing because villains are usually the hardest to beat when they believe what they do is the right thing to do.

So this is it:
She [Sweetie Belle] has seen all the injustice in the world, both her friends had a sad thing happen to them [losing their parents] and she hasn't.
So as an uninvolved party she sees how fate apparently punishes even the good ponies [her friends with their parents' deaths]. The idea that bad things happen to bad people that she learned from her sister as an element of harmony, defender of Equestria and the world, seems to be wrong. Otherwise she'd have to believe her friends are bad ponies for them to have bad things happen to them. But they aren't, she knows that.
So what happens to ponies must be just random. And she hates that fact. Therefore she looks to change that:
Bad things should only happen to bad ponies.
Good things should happen to good ponies.
And innocent ponies [read: foals] should have a chance to prove themselves before random fate intervenes.
After some self-reflection she realizes that she has all the good things happen to her:
- parents are alive and apparently not bad off financially (they are traveling a lot and did help rarity with her first steps into business)
- her sister is sucessful and even somewhat rich, considering she owns multiple shops including one in Canterlot
- her sister is ahero and one of the best friends of a princess, therefore she and by extension Sweetie Belle are somewhat politically influential
- she herself has been visited by princess Luna in her dreams more than once, as well as personally
- she has been the flower filly in a royal wedding for Celestias sake, what more could a filly wish for?
And yet, she has done nothing to deserve all of that except being born to the right parents. Therefore she has to even the odds now.

[At this point I played with the thought of her obsessing over becoming evil so good and the bad even out but instead went for her repaying the dept she feels she has accumulated.]
After being gifted like that she has to gift back to the world or it wont be fair. Her gift to the world is finding a way to change fate so that bad things only happen to bad ponies. Searching mostly by talking with ponies and reading books on the topic she realizes that there is no such thing as fate. Not at all. So she now has to search for a way to create fate. A quest for a powerful spell and of course for enough power to cast it or as the case may be create it in the first place.
What is fate if chaos, friendship, love, day and night are all literal gods walking the world? (Harmony has it's own entity even if it's not a walking, talking god.)
Obviously a god as well, possibly an alicorn.
And who better to become that god of fate than herself? She who has seen the injustice from the perspective of the beneficiary who despite that had decided that it had to change.
However, just as day and night are two sides of a coin. Just as chaos and harmony are. And in the view of someone who has always gotten either love or friendship from one pony at the same time but not both, one could argue that those are also two sides of the same coin as well. Everything needs an opposite, every action a reaction. So she herself needs an opposite too. What is the opposite of fate?
[Here I went into spitballing mode, I'll shorten it.]
Karma is the opposite since fate (in the sense that cutie mark represents it) is the action of a pony while karma is the reaction of the world to it. [I realize that at this point the ideology shifts around a bit, but I would assume that all those ideas and revelations are happening over a long period of time, where our main character is traveling the world/Equestria and is confronted with different ideas and ponies and a lot of time to think herself into those things. I might be so bold as to call it character development.]

In the end it turns out that her quest was misguided from the core of her believe. While her quest to become fate gets her close to fate she fails in the end. Instead of becoming fate, she sees (and possibly triggers) another ponys ascension to become fate.
She is broken. For while she got what she wanted at the beginning [the creation of fate], she had alread convinced herself that she would be the best candidate for the job. So she flees in anger/dissapointment/frustration/despair/sadness/something. She lives as a hermit for a few years: Isolation and depression and self-loathing and possibly (ironically) blaming her own fate.
She gets an unexpected visitor one fatefull day. The new princess of fate comes to her and helps her resulting in her ascending to become karma.

And here it is, do with it as you like. I just put it out there.
(I hope there aren't to many grammar mistakes, sometimes my german grammar sense kicks in and I put commas everywhere.)
