What's almost worse than writer's block is writer's block about what you want to even write about.
Let's be real here though. I definitely don't write as much as I used to, and that's fine. But I do want to keep writing stories that I think are both worthy of being written, and within my capabilities, which essentially means short stories or one-shots about one particular thing. Lately I've been feeling like cranking out another heart-warmer, be it pure wholesomeness or an uplifting tear-jerker. I don't have anything in mind so I'm just going to sort of stream some thoughts out of my mind for a bit.
One new territory for me would be to write a story about the Student Six. If I were to write a story, It'd probably be about Smolder, Ocellus, and perhaps Silverstream. Smolder would probably be easier to work with for me, since I could probably do something with Spike involved. Ocellus could be an interesting way to approach some more of changeling lore, and perhaps try to delve into her backstory a bit. I don't really know if I'd want to write a story about the others unless a really good idea came to me.
But back in normal territory, I'm trying to come up with some more heartwarming ideas. Things I've done before in this regard:
- The story about Spike leaving to live among the dragons and leaving behind Twilight. (Every Dragon Has His Day)
- The Fluttershy secret admirer story I wrote a few months ago (perfect example of what I'd want to go for again, but not necessarily love-related) (FlutterSigh)
- The story about Starlight "adopting" Diamond Tiara as her little sister (Stars and Diamonds)
- This one's a real tear-jerker, but the story about Apple Bloom's parents' deaths. (We'll Never Be Far Apart)
- The simple descriptive story about Spike and Twilight being, well, nice (Her Faithful Companion)
And a handful more. I wan't to write something along the lines of how those stories feel again. I've already done Twilight/Spike I think, and the same goes for Scootaloo and her inability to fly. I don't want to go "hardcore" like I did with We'll Never Be Far Apart (not now, anyway), so I'm trying to figure out what I want to write. I guess I just want to write a story about two characters, it seems. Perhaps a friendship that I haven't really touched upon before, with different characters. As I type this, for some reason Discord and Celestia come to mind. Maybe that could be a story I could write (and not a shipping one, mind you, just something that involves both of them). Or maybe some other characters, like Smolder and Spike, or Gallus and his whole schtick with basically having no real parents. Or...
I keep trying to think of something involving the Mane Six or other more central characters but I've got nothing at the moment. I guess this is why TV shows can't last forever, haha. It feels like they've all grown so much, and I want to write for a newer character that is ripe for some good old fashioned heartwarming story-telling.
I don't feel like I really got anywhere with this ramble (I hardly even deleted any sentences after typing them), but maybe it'll spark an idea for you. Or me, later on after these thoughts ruminate for a bit. Thanks for reading this, and thanks for reading my stories too by the way. Sharing stories on this site is really fulfilling.
A CMC centered story, maybe.
The funny thing about the CMC is about their teachings of self identity, which is a somewhat new idea. Maybe find a way to mix the young six and the CMC because their age gap and relation towards the main six could cause something.

Funny you should say that, because The Crimson Crusade is essentially all about that. I should go back and finish it properly (it's a little rushed), but I'm not that interested in editing a story I've already written right now to be honest.
Maybe I could write another one though. Something less grandiose, for sure. My sadder/heartwarming stories usually have one "thing" about a character and I struggle to come up with anything beside the typical ones: Scootaloo can't fly. Apple Bloom wants to be independent. Sweetie Belle, well...Sweetie Belle has always kind of alluded me. I don't know what to do with her that would be meaningful.
I could try to go back to Diamond Tiara and redux "Stars and Diamonds", in a way. I've always felt like that was a good idea but not my best execution. Not even close.
The CMC are definitely a more intriguing option for me though. I feel somewhat uninspired with the Mane Six, but that's more on my part than anything else. I'm decent at writing stories, but terrible at coming up with ideas easily. I appreciate your help!
