A JD Review: MLP Season 9 Episode 9 - "Sweet and Smoky" · 5:50pm May 25th, 2019
The one with dragons, MVP Fluttershy, and poetry.
Aside from Ember, the dragons still suck.
Oooooooooookay! This week's episode of pone features only one pone, and that is Fluttershy traveling with Spike and Smolder to the Dragon Lands. Turns out, we're finally gonna learn more about Smolder's brother after she somewhat mentioned him in Molt Down, and it turns out that he's not like most dragons. He's actually really sweet, sensitive, and loves his little sis--oh, crap, it's Garble isn't it? Yeah, saw this one coming.
Gotta say, the whole bullying Spike thing has really gotten old, but nonetheless we get one last hurrah as it seems... this is a Garble redemption episode. Yep, we're finally gonna redeem this little butthole since his first appearance in season 2. Greeeeeaaaat. The side plot focuses on Fluttershy and Ember trying to understand why the dragon eggs haven't hatched, and mama Fluttershy really did steal the show (and Ember trying to imitate her was hilarious). Then we have the true MVP of the episode give Garble a piece of her mind, Fluttershy standing up to Garble for picking on Spike so much.
I thought the redemption was okay. At least it closes Garble's arc after so many damn seasons, and we can move on from his character and the whole bully aspect. Seeing him accept who he is and ultimately help the dragon eggs hatch was pretty cool, too. Overall, a fun episode that I'll gladly go back and view.

This was a really fun episode. At first I didn’t really believe Smolder when she said Garble was a sweetheart, considering he tried to murder Spike multiple times, but to see he was a beat poet was just shocking.
Mama Ember was funny, and all of the newly hatched dragons were adorable, especially when Fluttershy was hugging three at the end and saying she’ll take them all. If Fluttershy’s keeps those three dragons, does that make her the new Daenerys Targaryen?
oh great, HES BACK? ugh... I havent yet watched the episode thanks to my dad making me mow and my family hogging the TV... but even it redeems him at last, still not looking forward to seeing him again
EDIT: now that Ive seen the episode... it was ok... still dont like Garble. might have to do with the fact I dont like poetry
So I did finally get to see the episode and I have to admit I did 'not' see what was coming. Nor did I have a clue that Smolder's brother would be... Well, I'm trying not to say but I see everyone's already talking. Anyway, my biggest concern for me was how Fluttershy was somehow going to be involved with this episode because I was thinking, 'There's no way she'd ever set foot in the Dragonlands even if somepony dragged her there'. But sure enough, as this episode went on... Fluttershy would actually surprise me this much I'll say (Though I think it was mainly for the dragon eggs as mentioned in the synopsis).
Overall, I didn't really have much faith in where this episode was going nor did I wonder how it was all going to pay off. And even though most of my initial judgment is pretty much there... I will admit the episode makes up for some of it's adorable moments. But I'll tell more about it my review next week.
It's Review Time ! But before that , I must say that I watched the episode a few day ago already because it leaked and the site where I watch the episodes posted it , and that means that it's not fresh in my memory and I might forget some things (the fact that I write this review very late too might not help...) . Anyway , to the review !
So , this episode , well , it was good , not exeptionally good , but good . I didn't get bored a single time and , for my naive person , the reveal that Smolders' brother was Garble surpised me a lot because , well , I didn't expect it (I mean , they don't have any physical attributes in common ! I don't know their mother , but she should probably check if she didn't do any trips to their neighbor before laying the eggs) !
Has for the side story , well , I guess it wasn't that bad ? It was more fun than interesting but they needed something to make the plot advance so I don't really mind .
Now onto the Cuteness Ladder ! Well , I don't have the episode fresh in memory has said earlier , but I can remeber more than a few moments that made me go "Awwww" so I'll give it a 7/10
And all that makes my final result a 15/20 (yeah , has said in the previous review , I am switching to /20 notes for more accuracy) ! I really liked the episode but like many others , there isn't anything special about it (well , not anything ground breaking special at least) , and that makes it obviously less important and memorable . Still something that I wouldn't miss , I mean , any episodes from the final season is obviously memorable in it's own way .

PS: Yeah , I should start making my own reviews in my own account , but I am too lazy to do it and no one will see them (I don't really care about that , but doing "work" for nothing slightly annoys me) . So I prefer sticking to short , efficient reviews on the comments of yours :D ! But if that bothers you , don't hesitate to tell me , I'll stop immediatly !

It was an alright episode. Not bad but probably one of the weaker of the seasons. Fluttershy was pretty great and you have to give Spike some credit that he was really trying to befriend Garble despite all the crap he put him through.
Not sure Garble putting up a tough guy act works when he was going to loot and burn equestria, but then again getting kicked out of your home when your going through puberty and getting attacked by predators attracted to your smellis probably long to mess you up.
