IN WHICH A STORY LONG IN THE MAKING
Hello and thank you for reading this latest entry in my Burritoverse anthology (I think it's safe to call it that now. If you'll Read More for a few minor thoughts…
I'm not even sure when I started this story, it was so long ago. *checks gdocs* Okay, so my edit history says the document was created February 28th, 2018. Over a year ago! But I know at that time I only wrote maybe the introduction and then just sat on it because I had other stories to finish. There's another wave of edits this past January and February. That's when I wrote the standard Burritoverse Internal Rant. The last third was only written this week.
Why did it take so long? Well, a lot of it had to do with Fiddlesticks's accent. She's meant to speak like a "Chav". This was an idea that came from the twisted mind of artist Catfood McFly, who unlike me is English and has Octavia speaking in the accent. I had to do some research into how to speak like a Chav. Then I just sort of lost interest for awhile.
To any readers I have who may be in the UK, you have my deepest apologies, because I'm certain I didn't get it totally correct. However, the "swear on me bruvver's grave" line is taken directly from a clip of a real Chav girl ranting on the Tube.
Like in the show itself, my Vinyl Scratch NEVER speaks. I won't confirm or deny if she's mute. It's a nice challenge writing a character who will never say a word. All her communication, if she doesn't have her whiteboard, must be through her expressions. Other writers here have made that into stories in itself, but I'm not interested. Vinyl simply doesn't speak; it doesn't matter whether she can or can't.
I'm also not going to apologize for the ship-tease here. ScratchTavia is one of my major OTPs. I know it's trite, but dammit I love the pairing so much.
Another question you might have is why I decided to give Octavia her own Burrito story, when more important characters don't get one. Well, Octavia's one of my favourite characters. That's all. No more or less.
Following this, I have one final Burritoverse story planned. It's one I've had in my head since late 2015 and was in fact hinted at in the very first Burrito fic four years ago. I haven't started it yet, so no ETA. Regular readers of mine know my pace makes a snail seem like Sanic, but I always hope my work's quality can speak for itself. Probably not, but I try. Stay tuned.
Peace out.
I haven't read it yet, but I'm sure the chav accent is fine. Stuff like that always appealed to me in an aesthetic way tbh. It's oddly free and poetic in some ways.
