Journal Entry - Volume 1 - Chapter 16

Dear Journal,

I left some apples next to my sleeping landlady today, as all her cupboards appeared to be empty. For what reason, I can't be sure but... maybe that has something to do with why she was grazing the other night.

She has got to be the most nervous creature I've ever met as well! Upon arriving home, I softly cleared my throat to announce my presence. Even THAT startled her! On the up side, I went into town today and bought some secondhand furniture. At least tonight I'll be able to sleep in a bed rather than on the floor, like she does! So many things I want to ask her! Why doesn't she have any food in the house? Why did she sell all her furniture? Why does she sleep on the floor?! Money troubles? Substance abuse? Is she medically unfit to work?

In any case... she should be pleasantly surprised by the return of furniture from the pawnbroker's shop later tonight...

Helping those in need is indeed important. But don't go around bragging about it! Doing so will only make you look arrogant, and embarrass the ones you help!
