Everfree Northwest part 2 · 8:41pm May 21st, 2019
Okay, time to get into some details. First, here's me at the con:
Yes, I always look like that. Along with me was my wonderful wife deadrose.
It's been a few years since I've been able to get to any convention, due to time and budget problems, so being able to go to my very first ever pony convention was seriously amazing. (The fact that it happened practically in my backyard, so to speak, made it a lot easier to do this year.) I spent most of my time at the writing track workshops and lectures, but still managed to hit a good chunk of the music and other programming. The VIP guests included all of the Student Six, Starlight Glimmer, Cozy Glow, Lord Tirek, and Spike -- Shannon Chan-Kent, Lauren Jackson, Katrina Salisbury, Gavin Langelo, Kelly Sheridan, Sunni Westbrook, Vincent Tong, Devyn Dalton (who is a tiny little pocket-sized thing), Mark Acheson, and Cathy Weseluck. Plus the amazingly talented Daniel Ingram performing with brony musicians.
My two big goals this year aside from the writing track was to see Luna Jax and Elie Monty performing, get some NCMares artwork (and bug him about his unfinished fanfic), and generally get pictures of the awesomeness; all of which I did. Black Gryph0n and 4everfreebrony were also amazing, and the con was full of such talented musicians and artists that I started to go into a bit of ferret shock after a while.
Set myself a pretty large budget for swag, and definitely blew it all. Aside from NCMares, also got some art from Bobdude0; and a whole lot of nifty stuffies, posters, stickers, and various odds and sods.
Unfortunately, along with the swag, I also appear to have brought home a case of the con crud. Oh well, nothing new there.
Probably the highlight for me was a truly awesome event with all of the voice actors giving a very special performance. Unfortunately, to avoid problems with Hasbro's legal team, no recording of the event was permitted, so it was one of those "you had to be there" moments of sheer unadulterated awesomeness, never to be repeated. I am very, very, very glad I was there.
One thing that I did manage to record, though, was a special song performed during the closing ceremonies, "Thank You For The Fun", which featured Daniel Ingram on guitar.
And, of course, lots of pictures:
Along with all that, I got to make some new friends, and I am eagerly looking forward to next year. The closing announcement confirmed that there will be an EFNW next year, it will be considerably bigger than this one, and the con will continue as long as ponies show up. One of the really interesting bits is that they are taking over the soon-to-be-defunct BronyCon's dates, and appear to be positioning themselves to be the next biggest MLP convention. Going to be seriously cool if that happens.
Huh! I was at Everfree Northwest, and I did not see that coming. We were literally at one of the panels together since I came with Cynewulf, lol. I should probably advertise when I'm going to these things, would've been nice to say hi. ^^

Seriously! Now I'm sad I missed a chance to meet up with you in person. Hope you'll be there next year!

Honest question but were you the person who brought up the Seattle goth scene during Cyne's panel, or was that someone else with impressive metal cred? Because if you were, you were one row to my right. I was the one who kept running out because of an upset stomach.

Yeah, that was me. Sorry to hear you felt unwell. I've managed to come down with a nasty case of con crud myself.
