The three-time Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda has died today at the age of 70. Most people remember his tragic accident at the Nürburgring track in 1976 that caused his vehicle to burst into flames He suffered serious third-degree burns as well as damaging his lungs from inhaling the toxic fumes. He nearly died in the hospital owing to his injuries but not only recovered, he returned to race only 40 days after the accident. Most recently he was involved as a non-executive chairman of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team and played a big role in getting Lewis Hamilton a contract with the team who has gone on to win five world championships. I'm really sad to hear that Niki has passed away. He was a phenomenal human being and one of the best Formula 1 drivers to grace the sport. He will be missed.
