I wish we could tag two stories for one blog post.
Now that “So You Escaped From Limbo” is complete, I'm trying to finish the first draft of the sequel to “Earth Ponies Are Overpowered.” I know how I want the plot to go, yet it's still a struggle to get the flow and pacing to work. It seems even more expository than the original fic, but I can't figure out how to reduce the infodumps. While the plot isn't very complicated, it does have more components than the original. And since I wrote the original in first person person perspective, I'm writing the sequel from the same POV. As a result, many scenes consist of characters briefing Twilight on events that happened in her absence. I'm starting to wonder if Twilight's POV is too restrictive for this fic. Would it be acceptable to write Twilight's scenes from her perspective and write third person for important scenes that feature other characters? Or would that be too inconsistent in tone?
I think that so long as you make the scenes flow well into one another, it should be fine. You could have them start telling the story, then it shifts perspective to either third person of the scene, or a first person P.O.V. of their experience. I've seen several stories do this well, but I've also seen many flop when it came to execution.
It would cut back on exposition in dialogue, but it could inturrupt the flow if you do it wrong.
Do what you think works best, I look forward to seeing the story.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a try.
I missed the complete tag at first sight for "So You Escaped From Limbo." Oh well.
I second EnderHooves on the suggestions. I think I should check this story out now.
One day I'm going to read your story.
