A variety show, by its nature, is gonna be open to pretty much anything, so you could probably get away with IRL political comedy if you tried, but this is probably a case where if you abstracted out the IRL content and went for the Equestria jokes, you're playing right to your audience.

Also, I'm guessing "And That's How Equestria Was Made" didn't make the cut this year (despite being approved the two previous years), since I still haven't heard anything back from BronyCon yet.
