[THE LIST] Surprisingly few "moon" jokes for a ship-fic featuring Luna · 2:28pm May 2nd, 2019
This list is not about my favorite stories of all time. That's my favorites list and one of these days I may get around to writing reviews of those fics.
The List is about stand-out, in-progress works that deserve more love, for whatever reason. In addition to general reviews of the fics, these blog posts will tell why I picked a particular story and highlight any features the reader should look out for. Spoilers will be appropriately marked, so you'll be able to read my reviews with confidence that you'll be able to read the story itself and experience the same surprise and delight I did when I first found it.
Also, authors and fans of works will be able to submit stories. Your particular selection may not make it onto the list, and the more information you give me for why you think it should be featured, the more likely I'll be to read and post it. To submit a fiction, simply PM me through FiMFiction's link on my profile.

Premise
1,000 is a long time, no matter how you slice it, and Princess Luna has gone just slightly loopy because of the isolation. Imagine her surprise when everyone's favorite blue-coated stage mare suddenly appears on the moon with her.
Princess Columbia's Synopsis
Aaah, a Nightmare Moon cult! We don't see many of those anymore, they've gone a bit out of style. That doesn't make their use any less valid as a plot device, of course.
The G&PT winds up being the sacrifice in a ritual designed to hasten the return of Nightmare Moon, but the cult members are...let's just say "less than competent." Thanks to the timely intervention of the Royal Guard, instead of being straight up killed, Trixie is transported to the moon. There she meets Princess Luna, who's very touchy-feely to an uncomfortable, "I need an adult" degree.
Why am I highlighting this fic?
With it's use of a 2010-2012 era plot device, you would think this fic is one of the oldest in the fandom, but no, it was written, and very competently so, starting in 2017. As a result, it has the benefit of a much more developed canon and the guidance provided by it's predecessors in the genre.
What makes this fic particularly good?
Unlike many head-canons regarding Luna's banishment, this one doesn't try to sugar-coat Luna's actions. Luna is very aware of her failings, and yet still clearly loves her sister, even if the bitterness and resentment that led her to embracing The Nightmare are still there. (One can't resolve a broken relationship when one half of the relationship is on another celestial body, after all) This emotionally mature approach allows for a very interesting setup to what looks at first to be just a silly ship-fic.
Who would like this fic?
Luna-tics, naturally, as well as fans of The G&PT.
Does the author monetize?2
No, be sure to drop them a line to encourage them to become a filthy, filthy capitalist.
- Endorsement on Princess Columbia's List is an endorsement of the selected work of fiction only and is not intended to endorse the creator of the work in any other way.
- Why highlight whether the author monetizes their work? By providing renumeration to the author, you often get the opportunity to request certain works be given higher priority. Additionally, when a person is able to get paid for their passion on their terms, it can often allow them to cut out things that otherwise distract from said passion, like a day job.
