    The Knife’s Edge

The other day I got a message from ZanarNaryon telling me they had created a TVTropes page for To Serve In Hell. Now, TVTropes can be a dangerous place to start reading, unless you have a few hours to spend getting lost in it. But if you want to check it out, please

Not with a bang, but a whimper

    Hey friends.

I didn’t used to believe in writer’s block as such. I always thought the phenomenon was a manifestation of something else in a person’s life. I also thought the cure for it was just to sit down and write any garbage you can. Editing should never mix with drafting, and if you can get yourself to stop editing, you’ll achieve more and better drafting—which can then be edited.

Ping 2: Live and In Person

Almost exactly 2.5 years ago, my family and I bought tickets to Whinny City Pony Con 2020. Of course there was no such con, at least not in a physical capacity. But good egg that he is, Charlie Worthley (con organizer extraordinaire) has made it effortless to transfer our tickets from that long-ago time to right now, despite all that’s transpired between.

    Ping

    I live.

    Time's gotten away from me.

2020 got weird. My 2021 started with an honest effort to get back to normal. But after I started getting treated for depression, I began to see more and more ways to improve things in my daily and family life that hadn't fit together very well in years. Including some of the core issues that had pointed me in the direction of MLP in the first place.

    Artistic Expression

It's been too long. Things are great. Really, really great. Not so much for writing, but for different modes of expression and life.

The One Where CoffeeMinion Sells Out · 1:16pm Apr 27th, 2019

There comes a time in every man’s life when he’s willing to show a little more leg than he’d otherwise prefer, in order to catch people’s attention.

Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. :twilightsheepish:

One sellout later...

The sitch
Yesterday my longtime collaborator and co-conspirator Moosetasm dropped a kickass new action story that he and I did a bunch of work on. Mostly him—but I had my fingers in deep at several points as well. It opens with stuff blowing up, stuff keeps blowing up, but there’s strong characterization and deeper reflection as well. While it’s written as a continuation of some past stories, we did a lot to try to make the whole thing stand alone.

And it’s getting basically no views. :raritydespair:

The deal
Pure and simple: go read it, then come back here and pitch me a quickie story request. First four to do so will get one.

Now the last time I did something like this, it took me a while to work through everything. Some ended up as 150-word microfics; one sailed a lot higher. A couple are still outstanding. :twilightsheepish: But my point is that I’m good for it (basically), though it’s hard to predict what exactly the final product will look like until I start writing it.

(I think I had a couple other restrictions last time as well, so check that out—but it wasn’t terrible.)

The clarification
If you’ve already checked it out, THANK YOU—but you’re not eligible to “win.” We need MOAR eyeballs!

If you don’t like the story, that’s fine. I’m not saying you have to. Just give it a fair shake and c’mon back. Though as the illustrious FoME said about it: “...fantastic work. Great tension, excellent stingers, and fantastic characterization all around.”

And yes, I will only do the first four, for my own sanity and capacity’s sake.

Happy reading!

... Wait, so I missed out because of my Fimfic omnipresence? Huh. Go figure. :derpytongue2:

Indeed, my immediate thought as I conceived this was, “Wait... what about FoME?:derpytongue2:

Naw, I suppose this could be seen as punishing the early adopters a little, but that isn’t the intent. It’s truly more a question of my own ability to keep up with my commitments.

However: I had a lot of fun with the last wave of requests, and I expect these should go all right as well. So presumably there might be another!

5050052
I still don't know how you read that story inside of 30 minutes.

He’s a machine. A force of nature. Let us praise the Sisters that he’s on our side. :derpytongue2:

Well man, I dunno. Looks like there aren’t any other takers, so what the heck—go for it if you’re interested. Last time you pitched me something, I loved it!

Petunia Paleo's special talent works by allowing her to hear the fossils beneath the earth. Why do you think she always goes for the skulls first? And as for what they tell her...

I like this a ton. I can feel a story attached to this but I suspect it’s huge and deep. I might need a while to reflect on it and see what comes out.

This might even be Hell-sequel magnitude. :rainbowderp:

I've put it in read later as I have some things on my plate at the moment

By all means, come back when you get that far!
