State of the Scribe: April 2024

You know what they say about the best laid plans? I'll be real brief with this update, for reasons that will be self-evident.

State of the Scribe: February 2024

Another month, albeit the shortest of the year. I still haven't had a chance to get into the process side of my writing and write that detailed plan for the year, been too busy writing a novel. Guess that's a good problem to have.

State of the Scribe: January 2024

This is exactly the 71st month I've posted a patreon calendar. Almost but not quite six years of writing fanfic, sharing all these ideas with you that would otherwise stay trapped in my head. I couldn't begin this post, and the beginning of a new year without expressing my profound thanks to everyone who keeps supporting me. Your help, big or small, is the only reason I'm still able to write

New Story: The First Willowbrook Christmas!

Hey pones! A Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! Last year I wrote a short story for the holiday, but the editing pushed it back for a little while. For those who enjoyed Sisters of Willowbrook, I have a story for you to check out! The final chapter will get posted tomorrow:

Message Hardcover: Complete · 8:02pm Apr 26th, 2019

Hey pones, just wanted to get this update published on the results of the Message in a Bottle hardcover project. This thing was an undertaking I could scarcely imagine at the start, but I'm happy to announce today that every book has been shipped.

In total, we printed 160 copies of this hardcover, and shipped it to 18 countries. Pretty awesome. I think it was an excellent crash-course of the publishing industry, and I intend to use the lessons I learned to make the next project much better. Thank you to each of you who chose to support the project!

I was thrilled to see the shipping notice yesterday. Glad I could help make this happen. :pinkiehappy:

Three cheers for the latest addition to my prize library!

God I honestly feel sad I had mo noney to get that one... Loved Message, Viewtiful Story...

Have you ever consider writing your own story, as in not fanfiction? I'm generally curious.

I have written a novel of my own already, as a matter of fact. I'm currently revising it, and I hope one day to sell it into the traditional publishing industry. I also do freelance writing for small press publishers, which is a lot of fun.

That's awesome! And wow that is a lot of books stacked up.

Damn. That is one thick ass book. I'm impressed.

Man those are thicker than I thought they'd be, I'll have to clear out a whole shelf just for it lol.

Out of curiosity, will there be any chances to acquire a copy in the future? I didn't get a chance to order one this time around, though I'd certainly be interested if I got another chance!
Thanks!

For curiosity: What's the distribution of those 18 countries like? Where are the most orders? Fewest? Least expected country?

There will be a second run of this book when I print Volume 2, so that people who didn't get the first book will be able to get one or both together at that time. Just keep an eye on my blog in the meantime. I won't print something else until every person from this project has this book in their hands, however.

The vast majority (110) were expectedly from the United States. The next largest country was the UK, then Australia and Canada, pretty expected there. After that just about every EU country is represented for one or two copies, even smaller nations you don't typically think of like Iceland and Hungary. A few in Russia and Mexico. I'd say the most surprising of any of the orders was the single person from Korea.

That a lot of books.
I cant wait to see my copy!!
Thank you!

*waves from Iceland*

I wish I could have done anything to contribute to this. Rip missing this.

Yay! I can’t wait to get my copy!

Me too. I had a tough set of finals recently and basically dropped off the Internet entirely. I can't really afford my own slice of tree anyway, but wish I could have.

Just Got it within the last hour!

Oh no now my terrible handwriting is on the internet X.x

5051623
Woops sorry!
Do you want me to get rid of the images?

5051635
No it's totally fine. I autographed over a hundred of them. I just have really bad handwriting.

Just got mine today! Thanks for all the effort putting it together. Just wondering if there will eventually be a "Volume 2" print run?

5051872
Yes, absolutely! I'm not even thinking about printing something else until these books arrive, but yes. I will eventually.

I just received my copy today! Another book to add to my growing collection! THANK YOU STARSCRIBE!!

5052660
Glad it made it there safely!

Lol. Your handwriting is a lot like mine. Sloppy but easily readable! #53 for the win!

Wow! A Message in a Bottle in a shipping envelope in my house!

Think of the spell like… writing a letter, putting it into a bottle, and throwing it into the ocean. It drifts for years, until somepony finds it. If nobody finds it, the spell inside lands on the beach, turns the sand into more bottles, and throws itself back into the ocean. The message floats along until it finds someone friendly. ... Then it… makes me.

First thoughts: I was thrilled to see that the package containing the Message had survived its journey from afar and made entry into my system. However, I quickly noticed that something was wrong. The protective casing was still intact, indicating that the functional portion had not yet been deployed. No worries, I assured myself. Perhaps it just needed a gentle nudge in the right direction. I removed the protective casing by hand and placed the functional portion on the table, then left it to its own doings for a few hours. When I returned, it had not moved from the position I had left it in. No nearby materials had been collected. No crew fabrication had begun. In fact, no evidence could be found to suggest that drones were even sent out. I must therefore conclude that my Message in a Bottle is defective and/or does not function as advertised. 2/10

I can report that my copy has arrived in Sweden safe and sound. :rainbowdetermined2:

It looks like the book was printed in and shipped from the UK and you still somehow managed to sign and number it. I don't know how you did it but I suspect some form of dark horsery was involved. :trixieshiftright: (But seriously. Now I'm curious. I'm guessing it was printed on.)

5053010
When I discovered the EU was going to impose import duties on every customer there of another half or so the cost of the book, I had to frantically search for a way around charging even more. I did, eventually, by printing it inside the EU, so it technically wasn't an import. This did involve signing in photoshop and adding a page to the front of each EU print. It also cut down on shipping times by a month, so I'm pretty happy with how they handled it.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad you were able to come up with this solution.

Number 86 has arrived! Yay!

I love my book! Though I think I am cursed... Why is every limited edition thing I get rescently number 69? Edinburgh comic con poster and now this!

Thankyou Starscribe for a brilliant story and a brilliant book, this will be loved.
