Stuff - Equestria at War and some long-term plans · 5:49pm Apr 24th, 2019
So, I should use this blog thingy to do more than make excuses. I've binged on the Equestria at War mod for Hearts of Iron IV quite a bit lately and I've enjoyed the hell out of it. I got a chuckle out of seeing the portrait of Blueblood there wearing a peaked cap with a deathshead and I can't help but wonder if there was some inspiration from my depiction of everyone's favourite prince or if it was a fun coincidence. I even considered doing a video let's play of it, but I'm sure no one wants to hear my boring monotone voice over a slow-burning grand strategy game.
Anyway, with season 9 of MLP currently underway I thought I might go through my longer-term plans for Blueblood: Hero of Equestria. While I'm keeping it spoiler-free, if you want to keep it all a surprise then stop reading now. I'm focusing on wrapping up Honour and Blood fairly soon (though I am the very worst estimating how many chapers I need to finish a story), but I have been doing some in-depth planning on the follow-up which will be centred around Ponyville. In fact I've had this outline floating around in my mind for quite a long time, but only just started writing these ideas down. I'd always planned for the next story to be set after the series as a whole ended, some time in the future featuring the return of an old enemy of Equestria, but due to my slow writing that has come a lot faster than I had anticipated. Hopefully the series finale won't conflict too much with the notes I've already made, but I'm sure I can adapt - the prospect of Celestia and Luna retiring did briefly send me into a panic but some shifting around of ideas means I can make it work and has created opportunities for comedy as our hero tries to internalise the concept of Twilight Sparkle of all ponies being the supreme ruler of all Equestria.
I've been slowly catching up with the episodes I've missed, and I have to admit the season 6 ending did throw a bit of a spanner in my plans for the Changeling Wars, but again I think I can make it work. Besides, I think it would be fun to explore the broader variety of devious foes out there who want Blueblood dead. The prospect of an old enemy very suddenly becoming a friend will inevitably lead to drama with a soldier who had spend years fighting them on the front.
At some point I'd like to write things that aren't Blueblood. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy writing this and I still have plenty of other ideas for further adventures for him. I might do some short slice-of-life stuff focusing on the ancilliary characters but I don't know if people might be interested in that.
Anyway, this has just been odd rambling with no real point. But it's nice to keep writing, even if it is nonsense.
first i am sad there not a choice in the mod for blueblood to take over equetria :P, secondary it your story you dont have to go the show route with ending the changeling war, do what you want either way i will be enjoying a good read
Hey Raleigh,
Excited as always to see the future of your story. One of my most favourite stories on the site. Keep up the good work (Y)
