Nobodyslament

I am a brony. I like warhammer. I play vidya games. I read frequently. Guess what? I also hate talking about myself.

So, I'm sure you've been wondering what the down low on the downtime for this story. Well, I have good news. I'm working on editing the story over to try and publish it. I'm obviously not going to publish it with a big old pony theme all over it, so the edits have been time-consuming and crafting a full intro to give some of the background that pony lore gives all you lucky readers. Hey you guys

Another day, and I was bitten by an idea that I couldn't ditch. My muse infected me and I just wrote a chapter in a haze of energy drinks and self-hatred like any good writer. I just sent the chapter off to Guldane, so it should be a few days until it drops, but happy days for all. Also, I have cover art now. Thank Locke_Jaw for a wonderful picture of Ragar that is now gracing my story.

    Update issues.

So, you may be wondering about my large break. Well I was in an industrial accident recently. I'm mostly fine, but I lost about half a finger. This has been a bit of an inconvenience. I have some of my stuff written, but I can't move my left hand without breaking out into a cold sweat. So it may be a bit.

    Updates

So update on the three chapters of various things I'm playing with.

WEN - For those who want more Luna, the next chapter focuses on her, Ragar, and a new side Character. And a reference to Cadence who will have a part in the chapter following. I hope you like plots that have no Canterlot escapades, and a much-awaited for event being completely ignored!

If anyone wants to look over the intro I'm making then just comment it. In other news, I am still working on a new chapter, I have a few non-ponyfied chapters past current progress done, so I'm going to try to get a few out soon. I'm getting married in two weeks so I make no promises though.

And A link to the intro I crafted Whole-cloth if you're curious now that it's closer to done. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nibORf5VnIn1j7J3ctn5iECHbsKf0QRjVPBhRZ5hE90/edit?usp=sharing

Hey-Ho Congratz on getting Shackled Married!

Congratulations on the marriage hope you don't get murdered for the life insurance

I would be happy to look over the changes

Is both, let's not lie

You’re going to de-ponify your MLP fanfic, and publish it as a stand-alone novel? Will it still be equine, or furry, or all humans in a all-human world? Who could possibly be as good a straight-man foil for your ‘very worst of necromancers’ as our Celestial Princess?! You will have to do a great deal of world building and character development that’s built into a story here. Always keen to see one of our community make good though; if you publish on Amazon be sure to post a link!

I'll pass them your way when I've finished the intro fully. I'm currently running through edits and struggling on the first paragraph over and over

5048517
Awesome I look forward to it

5048516
I will, it'll be human based, with a fantasy world. In all honesty, the first draft was an isekai novel, and I hated it. By scavenging old drafts, and working over the current chapters I'm hoping it'll all work out. And I will post link when I make it.

Hmm, interesting. Will the ponish origins be evident to someone familiar enough with our tropes, or are you going over it with a fine comb?

5048522
I mean, I'm going to keep the characterization similar. There will be some things you'll notice if you've read the original. And being able to ascend to godhood will be there. Also, the fresh take on the origin of the world will be all love and stuff.

5048511
Well the intro was added to the blog post

5048545
Thanks, I'm hoping some people tell me their thoughts so I can refine it later.

It has similarities to a opening I did to one of my stories but I think that is more coincidence then anything

It works fairly well. Caught my interest, set the scene, introduced the protagonist, did everything it was supposed to do. It’s dangerous to drop a bunch of exposition first thing, most writers start out with some action and let us figure it out later, but your approach worked for the Bible and works for you too. I’m not too curious about who created Life and Death, the whole ‘what happened before time?’ question, but I do wonder what they’re “wardens” against. Why do the Tree of Harmony and Discord mind if Celestia and Luna escape this dollhouse they’ve built? Does “immortality” imply absolute indestructibility instead of just living until they die? Why can’t Death kill what Life ultimately created?

5048559
Well, the tree of harmony and discord aren't life and death. I have them in a similar setup as god is approached, they control the world, but rarely if ever show up. And the warden thing is more keeping them on their own world, no shenanigans in the multiverse.

5048559
Also, immortality is what it says on the tin. No death, they can be captured, imprisoned, memory wiped, all that stuff. Just no death, and dismemberment and the like heals.

“no death, and dismemberment and the like heals.”
Raises some interesting existential issues. If you’re utterly destroyed and reanimated with new flesh, if you’re memories are erased and rewritten, to what extent are you still you? Intractable philosophical questions, but your story might eventually need some snappy practical answers.

“they control the world, but rarely if ever show up.”
They show up here, and have already been developed more than your main cast. I already care about who they are and why they do what they do, moreso than those other off-stage characters you only mention in passing so far. You’ve introduced a plot-driving conflict in your all-important first paragraph, hand-waving it away with “no shenanigans in the multiverse“ without explaining why they even care will be a disappointment later on.

Maybe you did TOO good a job developing Life and Death, with her nervous fretting and his gruff confidence. Maybe you made a good introduction to a story you don’t plan on writing...

5048577
With that I might add a few runner chapters. Make interludes every few chapters with them commenting on things going on. Show some progression of them while they banter about what it could mean. Interesting idea. All else fails I can rework the intro

Congratulation on getting married. So you use your experience to write the Black Sun x Twilight relationship?

5048623
Nope, my beautiful fiance is much more aloof than Twi

I was gonna say your idea was great for a non pony story too. Glad to see their will be one too

That seems very interesting

I'm super happy about this. Please, post a link when it's finished!

I think you should leave out the name of the world and introduce it later. It’s always been more interesting and enjoyable for me when i stumble across important information instead of having it fed to me on a silver platter. Another way of saying it would be to not bunch up your world building too much; scatter it through the story like breadcrumbs on a trail. From what I’ve seen of your other writing, you don’t seem to have any problems - and I’ve never written anything worthwhile myself so I have no hands-on experience to back me up - so take anything I say with a grain of salt. Cheers!

Another good author gone and stories unfinished. I wish you well in your endeavors and hope you decide to return

Any news on how the story's going
