New chapter and the problems with crossovers · 12:40am Apr 23rd, 2019
*Sighs* I didn't mean to take this long getting the new chapter up. I really didn't. No, it wasn't because the riff of Fall hurt me. Ok, a little, but talking it out helped a lot. And no, it's not lethargy because f the show, or me getting into new anime. If that were true I stop writing Power Ranger stories.
No, the real problem comes in the form of doing a crossover with three things you love dearly, and the problems within...
Problem 1: The meet up.
Ok, so I love crossovers! Love em, love em, LOVE EM! I think they are great and I think about them a lot. However, there is one tiny problem I have with writing them. The meet up. I HATE THE MEET UP AND INTRODUCTIONS! It's like, how do you make "Hi how are you. This is _________" interesting for not only yourself, but the reader as well. And when you have three teams to do it in, and all in one chapter? It gets worst.
The other part is...HOW?! How do they meet up? If you have one team get saved by te other, you run the risk of making team one (Let's say the ponies.) Looking like abunch of whimps that need saving. Conversly, if you have team one plowing through the bad guy of one world, you run the risk of making it look like that Team 2 (Titans) and Team 3 (X-men) are weak and you think that the world itself is weak.
Now, most comic writers I find have the solution of "Heroes meet, fight, realize they are on the same side, and move on." Ihave only tolerated this whole idea once in my life and that was with the Avengers movie, and only worked there because it made sense for Tony to not have heard of Thor. I do not go with this solution because it is cliche, stupid, and it's just padding. You know they will team up, so why bother with the whole entire "OH my, will they team up? How will they team up?" I'm more like "When are they gonna team up so they can interact and play off each other?" (Yes, those were the best bits of Avengers)
So, you can see my problem here. And when you are a person like me, trying to make everythng perfect while having read a riff that made you second guess yourself and trying to make it all work out? It tends to delay the material.
Second problem: What do they do next.
Ok, so unlike SOME writers, I plan things out like this. Idea, rough draft, beginning, ending, and how to get to the ending there. Then comes the themes and what I want to explore with each character. The problem? Unlike the mane six who I have some good ideas for what they can do in my Marvel/DC universe...the problem comes with the Titans and X-men!!!!! What do you do with two established and great teams that hasn't been done professionally by now? Explore Human hate with the mane six acting as heroes? Hello?! God loves Men kills is a great example. Dick moving on? Nightwing year one! How do you take that, and figure out what to explore with the mane six while keeping the X-men and Titans revelant without making them feel like hangers on. And then make a plot that is both interesting, unique, and not that you are doing the same thing you wrote with your biggest fic ever!!! and that leads me to-
Fatigue: Ok, not a problem with crossovers, but a problem that I am seeing with myself, the big two, and the subject...
See, as we go into this, I am still working on a roleplay with RWBY and the Starfleet Humans, a fic with Samus in the Starfleet world that is basically "Remember how Fall was Senin? This is what happens when you take away the adult stuff and let me and the bro be awesome for a while", Evolution of Friendship, A rp based on Darkside of Dimensions that has Naruto, Gundam, and hasbro cartoons, and this. 90% of my work right now, is dedicated to this guy and deconstructing it. That's...not very creative and I love being creative. I love being a writer, and I love doing this. But...I don't like the idea of dedicating everything to this putz. Am I quitting any of these? Hell no! I only have given up on one story and I still regret that. It's just that, devoting a full lenght fic, and having the fact that you wrote and completed probably one of the best deconstructions ever? And being the only one to finish? (Come on Scipio! I believe in you!) It's a lot to deal with and take in. Because I'm feeling a lot of wiehgt from dissappointing not just you guys, my fans, but myself as well.
Because unlike some writers, I don't write because I'm mad, or hate, or anything. I write to entertain . make you guys happy. I write because I love watching the characters go through impossible odds and coming out smelling like roses. And sometimes, I don't know if this story will match Fall or if you guys like it, or even...if I'm just a one trick pony who only had one good story that got lucky. It's hard. I guess that's why I found myself having the most fun with Shadow War when I was away from the source material and justhaving fun with Samus blowing up a dark angel based on laughter with a mobile suit designed by Edward Elric while Applejack and Pinkie protect a bunch of civilians. Because it was so removed from what I was doing that I felt like I didn't have anythign to worry about and could have fun (As fun as one can with a dark war story)
My second problem is my smalll amount of disagreements with the actions of the big two. As in, whilee I love the movies, love the old stories (Wish Barnes and Noble carried that more than the new), the cartoons, and the games...I am very peeved at some of the stuff that the companies have been doing to the characters I love. Just when it seems like there is something that makes me want to read the comics again? BOOM, something new happens that just makes me shake my head and pick up demon slayer or some other manga that catches my eye. This kind of translates to "How to explain what is happening in this world while paying attention to current comic events even though they are annoying you." and makes it hard to enjoy writing for two teams you love reading about. Wich also means I don't know if I can be as good as the professionals.
Now, does this mean the end of this story? NO! It just means that while I work on it, thinking of new chapters...I'm going to be taking a small break and working on the rps with the bro and a few other stories that don't have anything to do with pony.
Let me repeat I am not Stopping this story! Only taking a break to recharge and make a better product. Speaking of wich...watch the Alchemystuden account and the fanfiction account.
It's okay, Legend.
You're probably managing this better than I could at any rate.
Ah, I know that problem. Though the problem for me is trying to get both universes to work: I once thought about doing a crossover between Starfleet and Steel Ball Run, but I had difficulty imagining how Johnny would fit in the events of the Umbra Alliance in canon (plus, the fact that in my mind, Johnny does kill his opponent, and does it with the fury of a wounded animal.) Currently thinking of doing a Jojo crossover that just so happens to use the names and personalities of the Ponies instead, but it is still difficult for me.
Oh, I can definitely see that. I mean, sure, I do like "Rise of Harmony" (despite some flaws that really needed fixing), but it is still a dedicated world to the Dark King... and after some time, I can see how one would grow fatigued over the whole thing.
Huh, what did Marvel and DC do this time? I have no idea what is going on in the comics.
Also, just a question, Legendbringer, but have you ever felt something I call "crossoversaturation", that is, when you read a story with way too many canons and universes? I felt it reading this Jojo/MLP/Overlord/Evangelion/etc fanfic, and I wonder if doing a fanfic with many canons (MLP, DC, Marvel, 90s X-Men, Teen Titans Cartoons and End of Ends) might be causing fatigue for you? (especially a Canon which you wish you never discovered.)

Wouldn't say I wished I never discovered. Without it, I wouldn't have met so many friends. More like I put so much onto my shoulders and want to perfect my creed.
It's kind of like when you do something really special and you feel like you need to match it or it won't be as good. The fatigue actually would be coming from the fact that I am working on multiple Mykan related projects.
Retcons, inability to keep a status quo for longer than five minutes, unable to be more original or interesting than most of my Manga.
Really need to work on the rewrites

Multiple, eh? Is it those Liberty Kids fanfic the Darking wrote? Honestly, if you wrote fanfics about those, you might actually need to explain whatever lore Liberty's Kid contains because that show is pretty obscure to my knowledge.
So, the usual.
Okay, I'll be waiting.
