What a doozy of a chapter. So many stuff and things and things and stuff! First of all, I am SO GRATEFUL for the positive feedback this chapter has received! A lot of credit goes to Ember, and I cannot express my gratitude to him enough for being my extra set of eyes and correcting a lot of my strangely worded or overly long lines. He's been a huge help, just like all of you have for supporting me! As I've said earlier, this is the part of the story where things start to really get set into motion, so I'm currently hard at work going over chapter 9 to ensure I fully follow up on the suspense!
As I've said many times before, it's already written, it just needs polish and editing. I'm very thankful that I have today off work to allow myself extra room to relax so I can go over the chapter in my head, and then dive hard into the editing tonight so I can get a jumpstart on it!
Neat little tidbit about the "Old Ponish" in the story, the language itself came from Ember, using his knowledge of a real world language! Can you guess what it is?
A lot of inspiration for this chapter came from MA Larson, believe it or not. In general, the entire story carries this vibe, but chapter 8 and 9 in particular really hit home some of his unused ideas for Magical Mystery Cure. Maybe not so much ideas themselves, but the feeling, emotion, and impact that are conveyed.
User Venerable Ro left a comment (thank you by the way!) alluding to Twilight earning her wings from the events in this story, and I definitely had that in the back of my mind! I wanted to carry a similar "oomph," but I felt like doing an alternate ascension story would be too challenging for me for a number of reasons. Magical Mystery Cure is my favorite episode of the series, despite all of its production flaws and fandom controversy, so I looked to it and a lot of season 4 and 5 for inspiration on how to handle my own story. I hope to really show off not just Twilight Sparkle, but Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship.
