A JD Review: MLP Season 9 Episode 3 - "Uprooted" · 11:11pm Apr 14th, 2019

The one where the Young Six mourn and sing a song.

Yona conflicted on free labor.

ALRIGHT! Time for a new season of MLP, and it seems to be a solid continuation from the premiere. The Tree of Harmony is destroyed, and the Young Six each have a dream from Harmony (is that the Tree's name now?). Now, they must try and figure out a way to keep the Tree's memory alive with it gone and let everyone now of the tree, the myth, the legend.

I thought this was a pretty solid episode. Not much to say other than the awesome and very sweet song we got from the Young Six. Silverstream has a beautiful voice, everyone else is hit or miss. I especially liked how the Tree sort of transformed into a massive tree house right in the middle of the Castle of the Two Sisters. A perfect place for the Young Six to share their friendship, as Harmony seems to really take a keen interest to them. I'll be interested to see what she has in mind.

But I think we can all agree that Sandbar was an idiot in this episode. Like, seriously, moving away the Tree's pieces without permission from the rest of your friends? Are you dense?

Other than, a pretty good episode. 8/10. What were your thoughts?

I agree on that part.

Then again, I never took Sandbar as the brightest colt.

this was, to me, a miss episode. It was a neat continuation of the story, but... didnt they know to work together already?
and the song... was kinda cringy to me... ESPECIALLY with the two guys singing... rough voices singing dont sound good to me.
and yeah, Sandbar was an idiot, but moreso for ALSO not saying the tree was just a few feet away from them.
I want to say the griffen was an idiot as well(I can not remember his name...) but I think thats how they usually act to begin with.

While the episode in general was not 'perfect' by any means, in a way I find the episode in general symbolizes the current events going about in the 'MLP' fanbase. The fall of the Tree of Harmony almost represents the near end of the 'Friendship is Magic' series, as it's elements were in a way an essential part to the story. The debate and argument between the friends on to remember the tree to me reflects on the debate on which was the better generation. There'd be fans who side with the early 80s, some for the second or third (Not many, but some) and others who just assume that Generation 5 is going to be bad without even giving it a try. And it's not just with MLP either, tons of other franchises have faced this issue before. From 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' to the multiple adaptations of 'Transformers' and even 'Power Rangers', despite going through different sets of casts for most of the seasons, has conflicts between the fans on who did the series justice (Most forget to include the original Japanese shows that the series was based off to begin with).

In any case, even though the essential plot of the story was predictable (Given this isn't the first instance we've seen this on the show), for me the episode's many memorable moments from the humor and even that musical number nearly makes up for the story's flaws. And in a way, we get to know more about these students whether it's through their personal fears or their hobbies and ultimately what brings them together. Because in the end, it was the Tree who brought them together and it was this land where they were truly starting to become friends, they just needed a small little reminder. And out of all the friends to teach them this lesson, surprisingly it was Yona who did so. Another note to add, the tree shifting to the new treehouse reminds me of the 80s movie when one castle was completely consumed by the smooze and eventually got replaced by a new home, that's what got me thinking.

But I will agree on this one thing: Sandbar did not have the best performance in this episode.

Welp , just saw the episode and I can say that it's nor a hit , nor a miss , just a standard episode that we saw earlier .For those who don't know , I am talking about the one where the Mane Six (5 in that case) had to decorate Twilight's castle after the Golden Oak Library (is that it's name ? never seem to remember it quite well) got destroyed by Tirek .

This episode is basically that but with new characters and a slightly different objective :
-The Mane Six need to decorate their best friend's new home but have a conflict on how to do it , after some time , they find a way to make everyone happy and the castle is now the perfect home !

-The Young six need to build a memorial to an ancient relic "owned" by their teachers but have a conflict on how to do it , after some time , they find a way to make everybody happy and a crystal mansion grows out of the ground for no apparent reason *COUGHT* toys *COUGHT* and everyone is happy

See what I am talking about now ? But anyway , that doesn't mean that the episode is bad ! Far from it ! It's just that I won't remember it like some other episodes like the one where Twilight meets her old friends again , or the one where spike gets his wings to site a recent one (note that I sited those two episodes cuz they where the only one I had in mind and I am too lazy to go look at the episode list to find more) , which where , I think almost everyone can agree on that , memorable !

Welp , took way more time than I needed to write that comment , I am supposed to continue This War of Ours right now ! DAMN YOU JD ! DAMN YOOOOUUUU !

(Joking , you're doing a great job , can't wait to know what's on the following chapters ! Your work is fantastic !)
