NIGHTMARE NIGHT IN APRIL - Horror-Fic Contest - DEADLINE IS THE 24TH! · 6:31pm Apr 8th, 2019
Hello my fellow horror-ponies!
As part of a "Halloween in April" thing I like to do every year, I've decided to do one of these contest things that are so popular around the site right now. The criteria will basically be to give me a stand-alone horror-story that is 2,000 to 16,000 words total, and put it in the Contest Entry folder of the group I'll be setting up.
There won't be specific criteria for what can be submitted, only that it MUST be a story that counts as Horror. (and should have the Horror tag) That means ghosts, monsters, killers, eldritch beings, dark mysteries, untamed wilderness, places of dread... anything innately horrific, should feature as a central element. This does not mean it needs to be gorey, violent, or even that scary or sad, it just has to be the kind of story you'd tell on Nightmare Night. There will be multiple categories based on factors like length and subgenre, but I haven't yet decided on what they will be, and may just wait until after the deadline to do so.
The deadline will be April 25th. As I'm announcing this over a week into April, I will be accepting stories published earlier in 2019, however, I strongly encourage you to write stories in April, and will be giving preferential treatment stories published in April. After that, I'll try and get you guys some big announcement on April 30th, which will be the front-runners, if not the winners.
The prize will probably be internet-cookies, but I'll be looking into giving the winners something more interesting.
(Yes, I know I should've posted this back on March 31st. I'll do that next year.)

Yeah, March is fine, I just prefer people write something new for this contest. The method I'm going to use is that I'm going to do an extra round of weeding with the pre-April stuff, which will be more critical of the older stories. Ludum Dare and Beyond my Grave are both acceptable submissions.
I dunno what it was about your post, but in just the few hours since reading it I've had a few ideas for horror stories that I really want to explore.

I may have time to enter, we'll see. There's an idea I haven't written anything for yet, just some jotted notes. I hope I'll find time around my festivities; I always pictured it a fairly short, eerie story, it'd probably be best written quickly.
