The best possible in-universe name for "Shazam" · 12:31am Apr 8th, 2019
Currently in the comics Billy Batson can no longer say the word Shazam without turning back and forth between his normal and superheroic forms, like he could in the beginning of the New 52. This is going back to the original set up of Captain Marvel. It's also come to a noticeable head that apparently no one currently in the DC Rebirth era of DC knows who "Shazam" is as in no official public name... To that end I throw my hat in the ring to give him a perfectly serviceable In-Universe name. A name that while he's called this in the comics and so on wouldn't run into the issues of not having a proper codename.
That name is, Big Red. A nod to his iconic nickname The Big Red Cheese
I mean, hasn't he taken up the mantle of the wizard that safeguards the Rock of Eternity
5040654 Still can't say the name without turning back and forth though. A secondary one I thought of is Captain Red
5040659
Or Crimson Lightning? Captain Thunder? I mean, Billy is at the age where he'd come up with, possibly dorky, superhero name
5040662 Oh Captain Thunder tops any list of mine 100%. Issue being for SOME inane reason DC doesn't want to use it....

Despite them having used it twice and the second time fairly recently.

Weird. Anyway, I enjoyed Shazam, it was pretty good. It knew when to be serious, but kept up the lighthearted air of the comics
5040666 Now my superhero movie. Right behind Superman 1978
5040670
Like, personally, of the DCU, movie wise, live action I mean, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam are the good ones
5040671 The saviors of the DCEU
One of the Big Three of DC, who has NEVER been given a movie before and while Superman and Batman celebrate Action Comics 1,000 and Detective Comics 1,000 we'll never have Wonder Woman celebrate Sensation Comics 1,000
A hero who's been the butt of EVERY superhero joke in the universe and beyond since the Super Friends
And a guy DC tried to KILL in the Golden Age and then marginalized for decades when they DID get him.

Yeah, and the movie was pretty good, few stumbles here and there, but solid.
I know right? I mean, as Linkara and others pointed out, Aquaman, while he can't command fish outright (I believe they can refuse), the dude is still quite powerful, and persuasive. I mean, the dude DID wipe out most of the population in Flashpoint, and as he points out in Injustice, his entire fucking kingdom surrounds us, ocean wise. Plus, Atlantis is quite advanced.
Yeah
I've always been a "Captain Thunder" guy, myself, but that also has a good ring to it.
5041216 Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer that too but since DC keeps avoiding that name, for whatever reason, Big Red seems to fit the bill pretty well. Got the idea from Project Superpowers with their name for the Golden Age Blue Beetle "Big Blue"
5041255 I see.
5041483 Also Captain Thunder is already taken. Roy Thomas, ironically Carol Danvers' creator, made a character named Captain Thunder and he owns the trademark.... Just learned that... And this was my reaction to it.
5042741 ...not gonna lie, that surprised me.
