My thoughts on the upcoming Season 9 and MLP G4. · 2:23pm Apr 6th, 2019
Okay, I'm going to be honest here (even though it's a tad late or the last minute). I've seen all the trailers to Season 9 and I'm split down the middle. One half of my mind is saying "I'm not ready for this. It feels so soon" while the other half is saying "After the crap Season 8 pulled, my expectations are at zero. I just want to get it over with." But... looking back, it has been quite a ride watching MLP from 2012 up 2018 (Yes, I know MLP started in 2010, but I didn't watch until a friend of mine pointed out other friends watching the show). At first, I thought some of my friends were crazy watching a show intended for little girls. But when I started watching the show by myself after my friends said the show was great, at first I was weirded out, but after watching the first episode I thought it was adorable and the humor was actually pretty funny and the morals of the episodes were actually on point that people neglect or choose to ignore. I like that in a show where they teach you good morals without rubbing it in your face. I liked all the characters (Fluttershy and Applejack were my favorites) and I was actually having a good time watching the show. I never thought I'd see the day where a tv show would make rainbows awesome; this show proved me wrong. But after I 'joined the herd', I started to get into the show a little more and I watched season 1 through season 2 and I absolutely loved them. But, as I grew older and became aware, I noticed a shift in MLP. Season 3 had some decent episodes, but after the season finale, I flew into a rage and wanted to know what they were thinking. Did I miss something? Why would they do this to the main character so soon? Did they want to end the show like this? The episode was pure garbage. Yeah, I was not a happy camper and I sure as hell wasn't the only one. But after season 4, things fixed itself, I guess. It took me a while to get used to Alicorn Twilight (even though to this day I still think that episode, where she became an Alicorn, was still garbage), but ultimately it was still the same Twilight just with wings. Season 4 actually had some good episodes, nothing really much to write home about -- except for that one episode with freaking Weird Al Yankovic. Holy crap, was that episode great. Season 5 was about the same up until the finale; had some good episodes but a few worth questioning (The one with Moondancer was just applause-worthy and the premiere was a creep-fest. The one in question was the finale in my opinion. And I'm one of those fans who would've loved to see Starlight in jail for the crap she pulled. But, oh well. Friendship saved Starlight, I guess). Season 6 is where things started to go downhill, just a little. I will give the show this: I think I've rewatched one episode like 3 times because I liked it so much -- maybe it was the tsundere dragons, I don't know (I love dragons). But I did enjoy the episode with Quibble Pants because it just pretty much went spot on with what goes on in conventions and the finale was interesting. But don't get me started on Fluttershy's shoehorned brother (He can go die in a fire) and Princess and Prince Shoehorn's shoehorned baby (That's not a My Little Pony, that's a My Little Demon! 100 points if someone gets this reference). Season 7 had hits and misses for me, the biggest hit was The Perfect Pear (I nearly cried. That doesn't happen too often. Props to everyone involved with that episode). But now we come to Season 8.... I liked the Kirin episode and the episodes involving the Student 6, THAT'S IT! Every episode involving the mane 6 had me cringing to the point my muscles cramped up and the morals began to slip -- especially the one with Discord; screw that episode. When I saw the trailers to this season, one scene had me hyped and that was the potential to see Spike's actual dad. But what do we get? A damn rehash of Dragon Quest (That episode really pissed me off and Smolder was the VIP of that episode). And the season made me realize that I should not expect much of anything regarding MLP. But, I'll still watch season 9. I'm just not going to expect anything and just roll with what they give. Granted, there is some questioning stuff like the princesses retiring, but they'll most likely give little explanation, I guess. I liked Luna, but those two 'all powerful' alicorns get captured way too easily that they'd most likely join Princess Peach and Zelda in the easily captured princesses room. Just saying. All and all, I'm glad and sad MLP is ending. I wished there would've been another season, but at the same time, I don't want MLP to end up like Family Guy and The Simpsons.
