Homefront: A Series Milestone · 6:24am Apr 6th, 2019
Wow you guys!
Homefront makes the entire "The Dragon's Secret" series I've been working on the longest series of stories (in number of sequels and interconnected fics) that I have ever done! I am really proud of this story and the milestone it hit for me!
Homefront's plot line struck me out of nowhere last night. I knew I wanted to do another story for this series after posting Family Inductions, but I wasn't really sure what to write. And then, out of nowhere, it smacked me in the face. It was fantastic. I actually had to force myself to stop writing and go to bed for the night or else I might not have stopped to sleep at all! I couldn't wait to get back to it this morning, and lo and behold it was done by early this evening!
A lot of the story theme for this fic was the idea of how your heritage or family or traditions influence you. It's wonderful to value those things, but when you're making your own family or in a place of your own, you get to decide what to keep and what to discard. The ideas and values passed down to you do not have to be yours. You can change them and make them your own, or you can throw them out altogether. It's great to know where you came from, but focusing on where you're going, you might find that some of the things you valued or traditions you were taught just don't fit anymore, like Smolder did, and it's 100% okay to not stand by it.
The other part of the story theme was dealing with changing perceptions, both of others and ourselves. It can be tricky either way. Trying to change the way we see things can take something drastic happening to get that ball rolling. Trying to change the perceptions of others is a hard war to fight, and rarely ever won. They won't change until they're ready to change, but you can start by showing that change in yourself, as Ember did.
I had a lot of fun with this fic, and I hope you all have enjoyed it too.
Just coindidence that you named it just like that One Game
Awesome stuff
