Episode reviews: Uprooted/ Between Dark and Dawn/ A Trivial Pursuit

Okay, quick talk about three episodes. I know I haven't been doing these weekly but I am behind on mlp. Season 8 wasn't... as good as I would have hoped so I stopped keeping track each week. My bad. Season 9, from what I've seen, has picked up the slack. So there's some positive. I'm going to try and watch at least 2 or 3 episodes a day until I get caught up. Don't worry, I'll be ready for the

Episode Review: Father Knows Best/School Raze

    1: Father Knows Best

Well this is it folks. I have finally finished season 8.... I think it's my least favorite season. Not entirely bad, but just not as good as others. I'm surprised really. I never thought I'd see a day I'd like a season less then season 4 but here it is. So let's start off by going over the last two episodes of this season shall we?

New Chapter coming soon (The Greatest Treasure/Fate Pony)

Heyo everyone. It seems I've got my writing mojo back. Well now I've finally started the next chapter of TGT and my Fate pony fic. They should be done by the weekend if not tomorrow. I hope it'll be worth the wait.

    (Spoiler review) What Lies Beneath

Still need to catch up on season 8. Don't worry. I won't be out of the loop once season 9 ends. I plan on binging the show until then. So hopefully I'll get a review done a day. So let's start with this one.

Season 9 Tomorrow, my thoughts on the final season and being a brony and what I want to see. · 3:54am Apr 6th, 2019

Well everyone. Here it is. Season 9. The final season of MLP:FIM. You know, when I first heard the rumors of this possibly being the final season. I dismissed them. Before that, I heard a rumor that the show would continue into 2020 at least so I was aiming to see this show for at least 10 seasons and that was a number I was hoping. 9 though... I think I was banking on ten because it would make the magic of friendship last just a bit longer. Just one more year.

I know it's silly because I'd probably think the same when it came to season 10. Just one more year.

That's not happening. Now. Tomorrow, I'm going to wake up and watch season 9's opener, knowing full well this is the last FIM new opener I will ever see. That's a really... bittersweet feeling to have. A part of me wants to wait. Just wait a bit more before watching it but it's here. I can't escape it and I will watch it. Though I don't think the pain will be as great as I thought it would be.

I'll be honest, I still haven't finished season 8. I've got, what, about six episodes left unwatched and I didn't write the reviews on the ones I have like I thought I would. Season 8 wasn't exactly my favorite season. I liked some episodes of it but a lot of it left me disappointed and I'm still not a fan of the School idea and the student six. I think that's why I'm not too torn up about season 9 being the last. Shows can't go on forever and they can lose their charm after a while. I don't think that's the case with all shows. There are some really long running anime/manga that I still feel like they are still good down the line but the thing is, FIM I think is coming to a time where I feel like an ending may be a good thing... I still feel like it could still give us a good couple more seasons but that's the inner fanboy in me talking. I felt the same for Spongebob back in the day.

....... Yeah, FIM shouldn't become like Spongebob.

As for me, well. I've been a brony season mid-2011. I found the show in, what, April of that year. You see, when it happened I was in... a depression. A bad one. Suicidal in some senses of the word so I was banking on happy and funny material to help keep me calm. Monty Python was a life saver in that regard and I watched it religiously back then. However, I wanted to do a bit more. So I watched some abridged shows, which I discovered that year too. Yugioh Abridged, DBZ abridged, the like. Another one was purpleeyeswtf and his Code Ment series.

Yep, that's the clip that started this journey. A random mlp clip from a PMV in an abridged series. I got curious and watched the PMV (I can't find it anymore. It's either gone or I'm just bad at searching.) And then I watched a few more PMVs. I had to say, I really did like the animation. However, it wasn't until May that I would watch the show. Why?

I'm a boy. So I thought it was made for girls. I literally thought it would make my ears bleed within five minutes of watching it and I'd turn away. So I watched it... then I started listening to reviews.... watching more episodes... and then before I knew it, I was making PMVs myself.

(I planned on making reviews in 2011. However, I was, and still am, shy about my voice. I probably would be amongst the oldest mlp reviewers if I hadn't been a coward.)

I still remember being excited for season 2's opener. heh, it's a nostalgic feeling. Here I am, ready to watch my last opener and I'm remembering the first opener I had to wait to watch. I mean, I didn't even know about Mlp's reboot until after season 1 was ended or about when it ended. So seeing Discord's episode with everyone else was just... a treat. I remember reading the first mlp fics. I never read Fallout Equestria but I remember Past Sins as one of my first pony fics.

ANd MLP really was a great find. It... well it helped get me out of my depression. It wasn't an easy transition but the show was just so upbeat and kind that I felt a bit better watching it. Low and behold, it also lead me to finding great friends here in the community. Some of them I still talk to today and helped me through some of my bad times. I can't say I'm grateful enough to this show and to a good number of people that love it like I do. While there have been shows I think are better, MLP is probably the one that effected me in such a positive way the most. So I tip my hat to you, FIM

It wasn't always easy. As someone who is a diehard Starlight fan, you can imagine the ton of hate she got and the finale (Season 5's finale is still my favorite and a lot of the flak it gets is just plain stupid). It got bad for me so I sort of.. distanced myself from the fandom starting in 2016. Used to, I'd watch nothing but pony and pony content for everything. After that, I went off to find other stuff to fill that time. (Which lead me to falling in love with anime again.) I'm not into the fandom as I was between 2011-2015 as I once was but I'm still active in some places and still love the content even if I don't consume nearly as much of it anymore.

So yeah, that's the gist of it. I can't believe how much everything and everyone of this community has mattered to me and in all my years, I really hope I've given as much as I've taken to you all. I will never stop loving this show and I will try to continue writing for it. So yes, I do want to finish more Shimmerverse and complete The Greatest Treasure. That I assure you.

So season 9..... I'm going to cry. This show has made me cry more then any other show. Well 3 or 4 times, but that's more then most. Okay, maybe 5. I cried a bit when I saw the MLP movie in theaters. (Not at the movie.... I cried as it started because I felt so much joy seeing it on the big screen.) I'm going to cry when season 9 ends. I might cry tomorrow because it will be the beginning of the end. So yeah... this last season will be a roller coaster of emotions.

With that out of the way, there are some things I'd like to see before the end. MLP has delivered, in one way or another, a lot of my possible wishes. So hopefully, I'd like to see some of these coming up.

1. Another 'Slice of Life' style episode, focusing on side and minor characters.

2. The Key Six should at least have an appearance of some kind. They were sort of important in their plotthread and I don't think they got the dues they deserved for being important there.

3. Coco and Flutters have a scene together. Come on, they are cute. Not as a couple, just cute in general

4. The Diamond Dogs. For bloody sake, they were hilarious and the closest thing we've gotten to a revival is a couple of scenes in Equestria Girls. These could have easily been good recurring bad guys. I would like to see them do something again. Given that this season will have a big villain team up, hopefully they are included.

5. Somnambula episode. ALl of the Pillars should have had an episode, but if I had to choose one, it is her. She's one of the most interesting of the lot beside Rockhoof in my opinion. I would have liked season 8 to have been about the pillars instead of the school but eh. A throwaway explanation of what she is doing isn't good enough in my opinion. Have her get to go on an adventure please.

6. The Sirens show up. I know this show doesn't want to tie in much with the Equestria Girls franchise, and I hope it doesn't because I dislike that spin off, but the Sirens were one of the few things I still enjoyed of that series. So I'd like to see them pop up for an episode. They deserve something instead of fading into the backdrop after one movie.

7. A Celestia/Spike episode. As some might know, Celestia could have been Spike's mother given Lauren's thoughts on it. However, that didn't come to be. In fact, Celestia treats him like she doesn't know him that well personally. That... never set right with me and I'd like to see an episode with them growing closer.

8. Well, just another Celestia episode in general. She really didn't get many if at all. Heck, her first major role was in season 7's opener, her second was sharing an episode with her sister (My favorite episode), and one in season 8. I loved all three but I think another solo episode with either Twilight, someone else, or if I am blessed, just herself.

9. Some closure for Marble and Mac.... you all saw the holiday special, you all know why.

10. More Ember/Thorax moments. I ship it.

11. Tempest Shadow

12. Actual bat ponies. Please mlp

Those are the ones that come to mind. There may be more but I'll see what season 9 has to offer. So yeah, just wanted to get this off my chest. I will watch tomorrow's episode and give my thoughts. As well, I will binge watch the rest of season 8 this weekend and start posting blogs on them. Hopefully we'll all enjoy the last hurrah of FIM. I hope you all do well and have a great day. I will always be a brony. No matter what happens.

(Hopefully g5 is good but even if it's not, I know a future mlp incarnation somewhere down the line should be entertaining.) Until next time, take care.

Honestly, I want Spike and Ember.

Thanks for sharing! Honestly, I didn't actually watch the series until a year ago and now that it's ending, I feel as though I joined the fandom a little too late. There are so many stories I could've written had I joined earlier, so many tales I could've shared sooner. But I'm happy to report, I won't jump ship when the series ends. I'll still be here as long as I can, writing stories and sharing them with all of you. I lived with depression, so much so that I can't operate without anti-depressive medication. Watching MLP has given me something pure and innocent to enjoy that I can honestly take pride in for not being mindless fluff entertainment. I hope to continue seeing your work on here! :)

I hope it doesn't because I dislike that spin off,

Was with ya until here.
Also, the magic left this place long ago. Now, 75% of the people here do not currently or have never watched the show. 1% still enjoy the show. The combined other 99% endlessly bitch, complain, call this idea or that idea stupid and trot out shitty arguments they heard in their anti-[concept] echo chamber rather than their own ideas.

I write what I write because I have stories to tell and the few that read are intelligent and make me feel good. I read what I read because I like pony content, and it's worth slogging through a pile of shit like Pen Stroke's bibliography and the Mente Materia series for a hidden gem like To Perytonia.

I do not and do not desire participation in "the fandom". People hated Fame and Misfortune because it's accurate. People hated Stranger Than Fanfiction because it's accurate. Your average "brony" (including a moderator on this very site well known for reviews of stories) likes shitty stories, hates the show, hates that the show has grown and evolved. They are rude, cruel, hateful bullies who live to destroy the enjoyment some people still have for the one good thing in their life.

I'm afraid that you're nostalgic for something that never existed, friend.
