Equestria Girls: Spring Breakdown *Spoilers* · 7:26am Mar 31st, 2019
So, I finally got a moment to sit down and enjoy the latest Equestria Girls mini-movie, Spring Breakdown. Now, like my previous posts on the EQ mini-movies, I will be breaking down the pros and cons of the movie before giving my final opinions on it.
Also, if you haven’t seen the mini-movie yet, then this is an obvious *Spoiler* warning right here. If you haven’t watched this mini-movie yet, then you may want to pass this review up until you have. You have been forewarned.
That being said, let’s get on with the review:
Pros:
1.) There were some pretty funny moments in the mini-movie. From Applejacks ongoing seasickness to Rainbow Dash’s imitation of The Flash (running across the water with her super speed).
2.) Seeing Sunset, Sci-Twi, and Rainbow Dash in Equestria was pretty great, though it did kinda come late in the mini-movie for my taste (which I talk about in the Cons section). However, the fact that they actually acknowledged that (once again) both the My Little Pony world and Equestria Girls one are definitely connected was pretty great, with even a nod to the My Little Pony movie
☀️
Cons:
1.) Ragamuffin. I don’t honestly know what kind of accent that the voice actor was trying to effect here, but it sounded like a bad mix of Australian and Irish/Scottish. I will say this much, but his voice was definitely very annoying and I found myself fast forwarding through the parts he was in just so I didn’t have to hear him speaking.
I have nothing against the 3 nationalities mentioned above, as I am part Irish and part Scottish. However, this just really sounded like a person trying to do their version of their accent and failing miserably at it.
2.) Not enough of the pony side of things. For the 3 girls finding a portal that took them to Equestria, we barely had any time there. Rainbow never got to meet her counterpart, we never really got to see Sci-Twi or Rainbow adjust to being ponies (walking on 4 legs instead of 2, flying for Rainbow, etc.), and just the confusion of the other ponies knowing Rainbow and Sci-Twi and even greeting them (I would have liked to have heard a comment from someone about why Twilight was wearing glasses and what happened to her wings or even a little brief chaos in that the other ponies thought Sci-Twi and Rainbow were changelings if the pony Dash had shown up at some point).
Even the brief ending where everyone who was on the boat ended up in Equestria was way too short. I would have loved to have seen some chaos coming from that or even some coming from everyone pouring out of the actual school portal.
☀️
Pro/Con:
1.) Two songs in the mini-movie, like in Rollercoaster of Friendship. The main song and a mini song that was interrupted.
I was kind of disappointed in the second song, but not because it was bad. The song actually sounded very good, better than some of the recent ones that they have used, but it was WAY too short for me to get a proper judge of it.
☀️
I’m giving Spring Breakdown a 9.5 out of 10. I honestly think that this mini-movie should have been a full blown 4th movie for the Equestria Girls series and we should have gotten more hilarity of Sci-Twi and Rainbow in Equestria. This really needed to be expanded upon, instead of just being a brief mini episode.
That being said, it was still a pretty good mini-movie for being so brief. I would definitely recommend watching it.
Anyway, this is The Shadow, saying “Have a great circus “.
It made me think of Bert the Chimneysweep from Mary Poppins.
