Thoughts on MLP Friendship is Magic ending. · 4:58pm Mar 22nd, 2019

I have a fond feeling towards Hasbro. A lot of my toys when I was a kid, were made by them. When I was a senior in High School at the beginning of the fourth quarter, my P.O.D. (Problems of Democracy) teacher gave us an assignment for extra credit. He gave everyone fictional money and told us to invest it in stock and the student that made the most money would get 3 extra credit points. I am pleased to say, I got those extra credit points. Of the three stocks I spent my fictional money on, one was Hasbro and it gave me the best return and was responsible for me getting those 3 points. So I have a good feeling towards them. But. Having Celestia and Luna retire?! What are they thinking? It’s bad enough that they are ending MLP Friendship is Magic (Seriously. The Simpsons are still on.), but to have the Sun and Moon Princesses retire? Heck, Luna just got back relatively speaking. She needs another one thousand years to rule alone just to catch up to Celestia.

Will the fact that it is ending, be the end of the Fandom? I’ve seen this speculated. I don’t think so. It’s gone nine years. Has a lot of rabid fans. I’m going to compare it to another franchise: Star Trek. That fandom didn’t end just because the series ended. Heck it turned into a cartoon. And then into a bunch of motion pictures. Then it became The Next Generation. And on and on. Every one of those has its followers, but the original still holds the imagination. In fact it has been rebooted. So I really believe the fandom will continue. I surely hope the fan fictions continue. Because to tell you the truth, it was the fan fics that made me like MLPFIM. “Blasphemy!” you say. It’s true, though.

I hung out on Reddit a long while ago. They kept making references to MLP and the characters. I tried to stay current and culturally literate. So I looked into it. Saw the first two episodes with Nightmare Moon coming back. It was okay. Was told that that was the weaker of the episodes. Saw a couple of others. Eh, wasn’t my thing. Then while I was bored I ran across a fanfic called The Immortal Game. It was pretty awesome. It almost hooked me, and it sensitized me to Ponies could be cool.

Next came me anticipating the next Harry Dresden book. I looked up Dresden releases on my search engine, and what did I see? A MLP fan fiction crossover with none other than Harry Dresden. I read it. Then I read all the other Dresden MLP fanfics of which there was a number. And I was hooked on MLP fan fics. So I started watching an episode here and there. If I ran into a fan fic that mentions or was based upon an episode, I’d try and watch that episode. I saw the Nightmare Night with Luna because of that.

I’ve bought some Ty stuffed animals of Celestia and Luna, at a gas station. Couldn’t get Heart Princess, though! I’ve bought some books with figures and some other stuff. All of which I wouldn’t have done without the fan fictions driving my interest. I even went to see the Movie. No. I don’t do Equestria Girls, though I like Sunset Shimmer and what the fanfics have done with her. The art. Wow. They even make videos and stories and songs. Silly Filly studios did some awesome work that I think rivaled the show. I’m sure all this had a positive effect on toy sales.

What I really didn’t like was how Celestia was constantly Nerfed. I know Twilight was the star, but seriously every once in a while let Sunbutt demonstrate why she was The Princess of the Sun and ruled for A thousand or so years. Well, this is it for my first blog. Since I don’t have many followers, I don’t think many will read this, but thank you to those who do and those who write the fan fictions I follow and like.

Best Princess? Hah! What’s the Sun without Her Moon, or the Moon without Her Sun? And Love makes the world go ‘round. And what’s the world without Magic or Friendship? A pretty boring humdrum place. We need them all. Flurry? We may never know. On Sunday I like Celestia the best. On Monday, I like Luna the best. On Friday I like Heartbutt the best and on Wednesday I like StarButt the best. Happy now?

Okay, I know this is like waaaay after you posted this blog, but I got to this bit

Then while I was bored I ran across a fanfic called The Immortal Game.It was pretty awesome.

And I just had to say something, because that was the first story I read on Fimfiction and to this day it’s still one of my favorites, so knowing that it convinced someone ponies could be cool is seriously awesome to hear :pinkiehappy:

Thank you for commenting! It’s good to know The Immortal Game got someone else involved. I really didn’t think anyone would actually read this since I haven’t posted any fics yet! I’m actually curious what made you do it or how you came across it?

To be honest, I was kinda meandering aimlessly through Fimfiction, saw the comment you left on Sunset's Isekai, and followed it your page, where the blog's title caught my attention. Then I saw The Immortal Game mentioned and got a nice smile out of it, so I thought I'd let you know.

Well, I’m glad mentioning The Immortal Game made you smile! That’s one fic I’m very glad was finished before reading it! I can’t imagine reading that one in installments.

I do agree that they could have done more with Celestia and Luna than they ever did, but I’ll be honest, as the show went on I actually got less and less interested in the main characters and more and more in the background characters and the world around them. I got my own shaky justification for why Princess Celestia is nerfed in the show, and it’s good enough for the stories I write.

Funny story... I re-read one of the comments you left on my book, then found my way to your profile page, then read this blog post, and now I might have to read The Immortal Game. Not only that, but now I feel compelled to make Celestia, and Luna play a bigger role in my writing.

The Immortal Game contains a really bad ass Celestia, and my past self recommends it highly! I haven’t read it again. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. If you do read it let me know how you like it.

Another and perhaps bigger influence on my head canon is this story: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/232440/the-white-horse
Carabas is a great writer and I highly recommend him to you.
It’s short and it does Celestia right and proper. Highly recommended!
I’m glad you will do a lot more with Sun and Moon horse because I do like them and look forward to how you portray them. Thank you for your comment and checking out my blog.
