My Little Pony Season 9 News 03/22/2019 · 11:52am Mar 22nd, 2019

GOOD MORNING, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for the final season of MLP! As we dive into all the juicy gossip that the season has thrown at us, such as what roles our returning guest stars will have on the show to the 200th episode spectacular and the rumors if the princesses' retirement as rulers are legit, one of the BIGGEST rumors has suddenly been confirmed through several sources. And that my fellow readers is where the subject of today's headline takes us, if the image above doesn't give it away by now. Before anyone jumps the gun and declares, 'Isn't this a spoiler, sir?' given that it's been discussed that our subject is likely to appear during these past few weeks and now that it's pretty much been confirmed it's about time we have something to talk about as the season commences. For out of all the big names to make an appearance on this final season of one of the greatest adaptations of MLP history, with villains like Somnambula, Catrina, and even Hydia, instead we are treated to arguably one of the most dangerous villains of all time:

GROGAR!!!!

Now I'll be the first to admit that I haven't followed the original 80s series as closely as most fans, so to have a better understanding on this character I needed a ton of research to be able to get this blog together. From what I understand, Grogar in general is an evil demonic necromancer who in the original series once ruled over the ponies with an iron hoof until he was banished to the Shadow Realm. As one of the coldest antagonists ever to hit the screen, Grogar is not one of those villains interested in enslaving a population when it comes to taking over the world. We are dealing with a being who despises ponies so much, his plan was to capture every single one and have them banished into the very realm he was sent to so that there would not be a single trace of ponykind left to walk the Earth. Henceforth, Grogar is not a villain who appears for laughs but arguably among the most dangerous in the entire franchise (Even makes Tirek's plan to capture ponies to pull his chariot look lame).

Now some of you may ask: What is a Necromancer? Even though it was mentioned briefly during 'The Hobbit' film trilogy by Peter Jackson, necromancy stems from the practice of black magic (Witchcraft in other words) granting the user the ability to communicate with the dead, summoning spirits as an apparition or raising them bodily. Necromancers definitely achieve this feat for some divination, imparting means of foretelling future events in search for hidden knowledge, the ability to bring someone back from the dead, or to use the dead as a weapon. Hence, this is where it suddenly makes sense in regards to certain scenarios we've seen played out during the Season 9 trailers.

For those who have asked how King Sombra was able to return after seemingly being overwhelmed and destroyed by The Crystal Heart, recent synopsis updates for the premier speculate that Grogar has used his abilities to revive the former ruler of the Crystal Empire in his plans to take over ALL of Equestria. But unfortunately, it seems clear that Sombra has no desire to take over 'all' of Equestria but instead wishes to settle some unfinished business not just with the inhabitants of the Crystal Empire but toward the Mane Six (Hence the destruction of the Tree of Harmony, along with the Elements themselves). It begs the question to the state of Grogar's actual power when it comes to summoning the dead, hence how much control he truly has over these spirits? Because he could always allow Sombra's spirit to be hurled back into the abyss for defiance, but I have reason to believe Grogar would want Sombra to run free regardless if only to distract the other ponies from his true intentions. Offhand, it feels like Grogar is mainly going to appear just for this premier but if his reputation is just the way that the fans have speculated I highly doubt we'll be seeing the last of him. Considering that his plan is to bring in an allegiance of Equestria's notorious villains, a 'Legion of Doom' for 'My Little Pony' so to speak, we may only witness the beginning of what Grogar would have to offer after so many years wondering if he's actually going to appear.

But as it stands with everything that's to happen this season, the full extent of Grogar's role in the series is left unknown. For fans like myself, this will be the first time actually seeing this villain in action unless I decided to watch the original source material from back in the 80s. But if it's anything like comparing the two Tireks, considering how different each version is in their separate shows we can expect there may be a subtle difference that this Grogar has for this generation as opposed to how he was in the 80s. With that in mind, I am aware he is one of the most terrifying villains (Despite his plans being foiled by a human girl) and it's this one element that I hope doesn't change too much if he's a villain meant to be taken seriously. Considering that we expect this season to be the final chance to make a big impression, the addition of Grogar may determine if he's the greatest villain to be introduced into 'Friendship is Magic' or be remembered for a mediocre run.

And still one question remains as usual: What do YOU think?

Until then, this is the Dramamaster829... Signing out!
