The world's a little less entertaining now. · 1:38pm Mar 17th, 2019
Some of you who follow me might know about Larry DiTillio, who passed away yesterday at the age of 79. Those of you who don't, however, might end up recognizing some of the things he's worked on.
Larry DiTillio was a writer for television. Back in the eighties, he worked at Filmation, and was one of the big influences behind the scenes on the original He-Man cartoon as both a writer and script editor (and would later contribute scripts to the He-Man reboot that aired on Cartoon Network in the early 2000s). He left Filmation alongside a friend on the writing staff, one J. Michael Straczynski, regarding disagreements over the development of the original She-Ra series, and the two would work together for several years on various other properties - Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, The Real Ghostbusters, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, and finally, JMS' baby, Babylon 5. The two had a falling out, and very shortly after B5's second year, Larry would end up working as a writer and script editor on the series that would finally bring him to my attention - Beast Wars.
I never had the pleasure of meeting the man, but from everything I've heard, he was very entertaining in person. I imagine that I'd have been intimidated by him, but then again, I'm intimidated by everyone. But he was a talented, competent writer, and I imagine quite a few children of the eighties and nineties owe some wonderful memories to him. Godspeed, good sir.
Awww I remember him.
Sounds like a wonderful man, may he rest in peace.
Wow thank you for this. Both Babylon 5 and beast wars were amazing shows.
The worlds always a bit sadder when one of its wonder makers passes.
Sad news. Even though I never followed the stuff he worked on, I can understand the impact he had on others' lives. May he rest in peace.
