Now That's What I Call a Filler Episode! · 8:11am Mar 5th, 2019
Hey, folks. Just dropping some hot knowledge on ya because I've been busy with work. I've been slowly working on my stuff, but considering I've had to spend so much time making shit and teaching shit, I ought to just give you a little taste of some horsewords in the meanwhile.
By no demand at all, I'm giving you some cut scenes from The Nectar Unspoilt, chapter 2. They're rather unedited and whatnot, so it could be a little rough around the edges.
So, I was originally going to have Sable poke around at an old telegraph station situated above another tall building. This was his approach.
Keep in mind that the idea was still to encounter the alicorn at the end of every scene, but it took me a while to even get there from these other, unpublished scenes.
With the belltower in sight, he realized Mercury was wrong about the building he flew up, which showed itself to be an old publishing house, five stories high. The tower that Mercury saw looked to be an old telegraph tower, and much taller compared to the surrounding area. It’ll still work, Sable thought.
He swept up to the tower, but as he approached, the beginnings of a subtle buzz started to ring in his skull. He landed on the roof of the building, afraid to approach any closer. He felt like it would be a great vantage point, but to even approach what transmitter was up top would be terrifying, recalling what happened to Mercury just a under an hour ago. He could blast the roof away, but he was afraid he would cause some sort of collapse from the top down, affecting the rest of the building.
After he walked around the base of the tower and not finding an entrance, he wondered to himself if he could enter from the nearest fire exit.
Sable hung his head with a heavy sigh, cursing the universe for the journey he’d have to take to get through. He lept into the air, flipping into an aileron roll to face the windows below him. There were none on the floor that was directly under him, much to his chagrin. He took a quick lap around the building, fortunate enough to find the [entrance just another floor down.]
I was going to have a fight roll through this publishing house, but I decided that it would be way too much fluff. Fuck that.
Next portion details Sable rolling deeper into the Gemcutter's Quarter, the section of Canterlot adjacent to their position in the Starlight Terrace. This was another cut exploration to find an area of the city for the guys to walk through after Mercury's wing broke.
Here, Sable encounters an old bell tower situated in a little plaza. I kept the bell tower idea from the last section, and this is what I came up with instead.
He kept a good distance from the windows, afraid some ghoul would launch at him from within. But the closer he went to the top, the more a nagging squeal quickly grew. Unsure of its location, he got as close as he could to the bell, only for him to turn right around to avoid his vision from getting tinted red. The pain felt like his brain was squeezing tight against his skull, trying to burst from the case.
If only I can find where that transmitter is! He complained, swinging around to land in the small tile square that surrounded the tower. As he landed, he engaged his weapons again, the comforting, dangerous hum buzzing back into existence.
He looked around, scanning his surroundings. He was in the beginnings of the Gemcutter’s Quarter, by what the buildings looked like. It was once a beautiful public plaza, with the pattern of the tiles the shape of a sun and moon overlapping around a sea of stars around the tower. Benches and fountains could be seen in each corner, and once bountiful planters hung from old lampposts and the awnings of the homes that surrounded the plaza.
Somewhere around him, the occasional yell of a ghoul echoed, the only decipherable sound in the dead wind. He steeled himself, hoping to whatever deity above that whatever he did here didn’t grab the ghouls’ attention.
The transmitter’s faint squealing niggled in the back of his skull, causing his whole body to shiver. Even from at the bottom of the tower, it refused to be muffled by the building. But if this was the highest point close to him, it would have to do.
He booted the door in with a powerful kick, cracking the weakened oak door in two. As soon as the halves blasted across the floor, a billowing, magenta cloud belched from the doorway. It evacuated with no resistance, shooting past Sable. As it passed around him, his HUD flashed red, blinking LOW POTION aggressively. Panicked, he shot himself to the side and out of the grasp of the dirty cloud.
“What the hey!?” He shouted, looking all around him for signs of injury. But as he did so, his breathing grew strained, and the aftertaste of blood became all he could sense. It’s the Cloud! It’s the damn Cloud!
Automatically, he popped his crupper’s hatches from his interface, and immediately powered down the suit. As quickly as he could, he hopped out and replaced the poultice vial in his suit with one from his pack. It was generally a quick affair, sliding one out for another, but he suddenly developed a terrible hacking cough with every breath, splattering blood over his hooves. But with difficulty, his vial was able to be replaced, and after he slid back into the suit, his healing monitors showed green again. This time he realized it was a slow burn.
With some caution, he quickly purged the suit’s interior, in a hope to minimize the Cloud’s presence. With that, his body began to feel better[...]
You'll notice that I decided to introduce the condensed portions of the Pink Cloud here because we just hadn't seen that yet. I also had an emphasis on those squealing radios that were introduced, but to be honest, I remember that shit really slowing me down when I read it in the original Fallout: Equestria. I have a feeling I'm not going to play with it much outside of when it might be honest-to-god necessary.
I was still trying to work this scene out. This is the last part I dedicated to it before I decided to just have him fly up and scan the city. This water, alongside constant Pink Cloud exposure can melt dudes into their armor a la Steelhooves, so I thought I'd highlight it for funzies. Didn't use it, but y'know. It'll might come up again some time.
Before climbing the tower, Sable walked up to the nearest fountain, which happened to be lightly dribbling whatever water it could.
He stared down into the water. This is not what water should be, he noted, seeing that it was in some strange, foggy state, like the Cloud had been trapped within the liquid. It was somewhat viscus, not unlike the blood of the ghouls, but flowed much freer. He was afraid to be near it, feeling lucky the dribbling water wasn’t splashing on him.
That's it, really. I have a little part written for the end of the chapter, but it's inconsequential. It was just an added pep talk by Mercury, but to be honest, having an inspirational speech while you're dying didn't exactly seem apt when all he could do was shove a potion into his power armor and get it over with.
Anywho. Hope you enjoy it. I'm busy working, so I'll get back to it. Toodles!
