[Writing/Feedback Blog]:Express your dislike about fanfics · 1:18am Mar 2nd, 2019

Generally speaking I think that the brony community is overly positive to a fault. We seek to show all the good stuff we have done, the animations, that we're good people e.t.c.

But when something bad happens we call it drama, we avert our eyes, we move away. That's not to say these things don't happen in other communities or the world at large but I think that because of the initial stigma of liking a little gir's cartoon show we have taken somewhat of a "crusade" to prove it wrong even though we... don't really need to.

This kind of attitude however affects our criticism and rating of fanfics. When you start having a certain attitude against conflict, any sort of conflict be that drama, a random stranger yelling in the street, politics e.t.c. that leaks into other stuff. It leaks into stuff like fanfic ratings.

People hesitate to give others dislikes because they fear retaliation, getting showered with dislikes, and being dubbed "haters" because they don't have all the time in the world to give detailed feedback to some fic. For that I have to ask you guys... why don't you treat positive feedback the same way? Why don't you think of it nessecary to tell the author what he did correct in a fic when you like his fic, but feel OBLIGATED to give feedback to a fic you dislike? For the same reason why do authors do that?

Recently I read a fic about Chrysalis going crazy about some stones and complained that this fic is essentially too short, too quick, and nothing of value happens in this wasted idea. I did so as civil as possible with no strong words. I was accused of "being arrogant" (comment right now deleted) and another guy told me that I'm trying to get this fic down from the feature box.

My answer to these is 1)Wtf are you talking about 2)Yes I am.

If I read a fanfic and I don't like it I say why. The fact that I do is tons useful to the author the same way that giving positive feedback is. This fic didn't deserve the spotlight and I said why. What exactly is so bad? My exchange with the author was perfectly normal too.

Why are people afraid to shoot down fics that get in the feature box? Why are people afraid to say why they feel like a fic is bad? Maybe they don't like where a fic is going, maybe they don't like the quality, maybe it just became boring.

JUST DO IT. Take this opportunity today and dislike a fic that made into the feature box. HOWEVER!!! Do so for a legitimate reason, not because of a whim. Read the fic first before you dislike it. Don't dislike it because you want to shoot down the author. THAT'S SHAMEFUL!

Anyway that's all I have to say so far. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.

Why are people afraid to say why they feel like a fic is bad? Maybe they don't like where a fic is going, maybe they don't like the quality, maybe it just became boring.

Top irony. As you yourself have shown, rabid fanboys will rush to attack anyone who does this.

I'm a rabid fanboy because I've said that your opinion is wrong?

Also how insecure do you have to be in order to consider a meme as an attack? Not to mention that you clearly didn't know a thing about one of the most active writers around fimfic.

You do realise you sound ridiculous right now right?

You do realize you're proving my point and ironically proving the point of your blog, right?

Let me make it simple for you:

Me: "I feel this fic is formulaic"
You: "You've clearly never read a story by this author!" which a few seconds looking at my library would have immediately told you was wrong.
Also you: "Why are people afraid to say why they feel like a fic is bad?"
You again: "Your opinion is wrong, you're insecure, you clearly don't know anything about 'one of the most active writers', and you sound ridiculous!"
Me: "Thanks for proving the point."

Let me make this even simpler for you.

You said this is formulaic.

I said you haven't read enough fics by the author.

I then elucidated that this means that 1-you're wrong and 2-shortskirtsamdexplosions has such a unique writing style that I could recognise his craft even without reading the name of the author.

And believe it or not that's what happened here.

You perceived my response as an attack and I will admit I was a bit of a tease but I didn't think it was enough to be considered an attack.

I then came here to respond at your comment about my imagined hypocrisy and called your perception of my comment as an attack... a sign of your insecurity. Not everything is about you and you didn't have to get so defensive.

I didn't attack you. I judged you based on your perception and your reaction.

Also what you fail to understand on your imagined hypocrisy is that this blog doesn't apply to my comment because I don't mindlessly deny your criticism's validity in favour for the writer's fame in the feature box and whatnot.

For this blog post to apply to me I would have to be mindless in my defense of the writer and spew normie-like comments such as "if you don't like it don't read it" or "you're just jealous". I on the other hand simply deem your criticism unfounded and baseless.

Also on your comment about "don't think just consume" like I said you don't have to reinvent the wheel in every fic.

Now if you have actually read enough from the writer and simply say that his writing style among all fics is formulaic well I would agree but that's just the way writing works when you're comfortable with a way of writing.

If you want you can elucidate your point on formulaic writing of the fic but up until this point you have not while I have.

See the problem here is you're angry. Angry enough that you wanted to go looking for dirt on my blog... Yet actually found nothing(another sign of insecurity and the fact that you can't take in the fact that I'm simply disagreeing with you). I can be here all day responding if you like. But that would require you actually being open to change your mind.

Ah, I found the problem with your basic premise: you can't read, and overreacted to your misunderstanding.

I didn't say the story was formulaic - I said it feels formulaic. Since you got that basic detail wrong, I didn't waste my time reading the rest of your response. You may type up a new one based on what was actually said, though. Try to keep the personal attacks down if you can.

5220890
Even if with that you're STILL wrong. You argue feelings. I argue facts and the facts say your feelings are wrong.

5220894
Hahaha! Oh my, why so angry? My feelings about a story based on my own experiences are wrong? Who in the world do you think you are? I can't imagine you being over 10 years old to try to shout something like that, I can even picture your furious glare and clenched jaw as you flip the table. And based on your responses here, that IS a fact.

5220897
Closed-minded zealotry, it's so ugly to watch. You obviously don't understand the difference between opinions and facts since you're trying to make this into an argument. Maybe after you've educated yourself, grown up a bit, and matured in the process, you'll look back and cringe at your statements here. Until then, you're just a rabid fanboy, and extremely angry to boot. Try not to get so stressed about being wrong friend. :raritywink:

They are wrong because they are not factual they are not based in reality they are unfounded. If me saying this is being angry then you are also wrong.
